Question on Radiosity Rendering

Dear all,

I am new to the forum and I have some questiones here and hope some kind souls can help me.

I am all the while using Autocad ADT3.3 to setup my models and import it to 3D Studio Viz (2007) for applying material and rendering. I always used the old rendering menthods that does not support radiosity so I tried a few times to used that feature in Viz but failed either its tough to set the lighting or out of memory.

I am using a Acer notebook with 2.0Ghz Duo Core and 2GB of RAM is hat sufficient to render an interior scene with radiosity rendering?

As u all can see I am equally confused in asking what I want to know mainly due to the fact that I am not familiar so if someone could point me some lead will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

First, welcome to CGArchitect.

Second, if you check our forums, you'll see we have specific sections regarding various subjects, including the most common softwares. Since your question seems to be software-specific, it would be best placed in the correspondent section.

Third, your question is reeeeeally confusing. I'm guessing you are having trouble setting a scene with radiosity, right? Well, the first thing is to check the tutorials that come with Viz on this subject. Follow them and then try it on your scene. Radiosity is really heavy and if set up wrong can (and mot likely will) cause your system to crash. Another guess: check your meshing settings. Mesh sizes too low simply don't work.

Sorry I know this is off topic but why do people use notebook computers for rendering? I mean you can get a much more powerful desktop system for the same money as a notebook.

That used to be true, my new core duo is as fast as an AMD 3800 X2 desktop, it only cost me $740.00 total, and I can carry it around with me, pretty crazy, cause just 2 years ago that was unheard of, maybe if I had a $5,000 laptop, it might be as fast as my $2,000 desktop, but times have changed, pretty soon we'll have quad laptops...
