Drunkenbear
Ok im very new to mental ray only been using it for 2 days now. So the problem im having is with the basin in the image. The basin is its own material and it isn't a multi-layer or architectural material. As you can see on the second image a standard material does the same thing. So any ideas, ive narrowed it down to a single momni light that im using as an ambient fill. Ive used this on another scene and it works fine. really desperate for help as im supposed to be presenting tomorrow morning

Drunkenbear
yeah i guess so, but id still like to know whats causing it, the bath, wc and duct boxing out are the same materials so why arent they behaving the same way
JamesTaylor
using omni lights is always going to cause issues from my experience, the way they distrubte light is completely unnatural....... i never use an onmi light in a scene. i think you would be much better using an area light placed over the window opening, if you need to add extra light sources i would go for another area light in the door opening (behind camera) and then spot lights, with ies files if you have time, to replicate recessed spots in the ceiling (or what ever your light fittings are etc.) the thing to remember is that if your trying to achieve realism you have to think how things work in the real world and mimick it with your software.
