womble
Would anyone be able to tell me if there's a way to move a selected object by base point rather than central gizmo? I guess i could move the gizmo to the base point i want to move with, but what I'm really looking for is something similair to AutoCAD's system; where i select move, i select the base point to move the object by, and then select the point to snap the object to. Is this possible? At the moment I'm doing all of my moving by guesstimation and it doesn't lend itself to being the most accurate method of moddeling. Cheers, Gary. Ravendark
Max has a snap toggle you could use. Providing you have a snap-able second point to move to it will work in the same way as AutoCad.
notamondayfan
or you could use the relative move at the bottom of the screen, by typing in the distances you require.
jafs00
trying to find something similar like autocad's snap and it's degree of precission is sort of frustrating in max. but I'll describe what I do and I am satisfied with the results I get. this works great for me 1. set up your snap preferences in 3d max..left click on the snap icon (i usually go with vertex, end and center) 2. select the object you want to clone or move and press space bar to lock it. The small lock in the bottom center of your 3ds max screen should turn to yellow. 3. now you can reference it to any other part of the object or screen that you wish, sorta like autocad's object snap. hope this helps.
