blade911
alrite im kinda of a beginner n im real confused i usually use the default values for IR and use qmc as my secondary engine.but somehow things seem to be taking too much time to render ive been searchin the forums for the right values but apart from references not a straight to the point answer. so cud someone jus tell me wat presets shud i use for a test render say 640x480 or 800x 600 n final render tat are above 1500 pixels.. wat other settings shud i adjust? and is it advisable to use light cache over qmc. if so at wat presets again for a test n final? sorry if this is a repeated qs but hope one of u don mind givin me the answers. im jus attachin an image which took around 18m to render at the lowest settings. is this normal? a medium preset took 2.5 hrs. i have a p4 1.5g system hope im not askin too much thnks in advance
jafs00
be sure you are using V-Ray materials. This is something that is absolutely necesary for Vray to function at its optimum speed.
bayvan
First let me say this is just my opinion based on some experience that for interiors the best combination of the GI is first Irr. map second LC. It's faster then QMC and you get the quality as well. As jafs00 pointed befor me allways use vraymat. The main thing that slows down render times are reflections. You can turn on use light cashe for glossy rays in the LC rollout. As for the resolution presets they are optimazed for 640 / 480 and when you go up you can turn down min/max values for the Irr map. Clifton Santiago
For speed try IR/LC. Use medium IR and default LC. Set Global subdivs multiplier to like 8 and turn down your IR Hsph Sudivs to about 8. It looks like your real problem is quality not speed. Try Vlado's universal settings. Even with default settings you should be getting better quality that you are. Most likely you need to spend more time on lighting and materials. bayvan
Another thing you should try working in linear space. For me it was major step in the right direction. When you work in linear space you get exelent light solutions by using just 1-2 light sources. On your render the area around the window is blown out but the room is dark. More info about LWF you can find here: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15303 http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10854 http://www.gijsdezwart.nl/tutorials.php
dynaman
one thing that i found has really sped up my preview / render times is making sure you check "store with irradiance map" when you create a vray light. it slows down the IM calculation slightly, but it makes your final rendering pass WAY faster. (especially useful when you save your IM solution for re-use in future rendering)
