Trevor Tizard
Hi All, I want to apply text to an object (a pencil to be exact) with another texture already mapped. First, how do I map two textures to the same object, and second how do I get rid of the background from the text bitmap. I will be rendering this with Vray. Thanks. Thiago de Andrade
Either you create a map with the text on (and thus you'll have to get it "cleaned" in pshop or similar program) or you extrude the text and apply it as a mesh on the surface of your pencil. I know MAX can extrude texts.
notamondayfan
i dont think you can layer maps in the way i think your thinking of. personally id use "mutli sub object" materials (as i do for 99% of my models), and apply different textures for each side of the pencil, tip, graphite, rubber, etc etc. as for the text background, id photoshop it the same colour as the rest of the pencil. or you could always uvw unwrap the whole pencil and create a map for the whole thing in one go in photoshop. JamesTaylor
you can layer maps by using multiple uvwmap modifers and assigning each one a unique channel ID, then match the material channel ID to the appropiate uvwmap channel... you probably still need to use a multi sub object material. i have found tho that this has quite an effect on render times
notamondayfan
what have u found increases render times? several ID maps / channels, or multi sub materials?
Matt Clementson
You can layer the maps by using a Composite map. The text map will need to have an alpha channel so that its background is removed and the texture underneath shows through.
