Tim Nelson
Hello, first time poster here. I'm working on a deadline to finish this image by tonight and wonder if I could get some comments on how to make it better. The middle building is the "new" renovated store, with everything else being existing. I turned the existing daylight photo into a night shot, so there are obvious lighting flaws which may or may not be noticeable at first. My goal is to give the mood/idea and not every detail. I am continuing to work on it, and will post the final product when done. Thanks! http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Nightlights.jpg
Ernest Burden III
Welcome! I hope my comments don't reach you too late. But 'tonight' may mean more like early tomorrow. I know my tonight will. I like the heavy moon and associated light bulbs. What the composition could really use is one more string of lights that goes from the right pole towards the upper right of the picture. As it is, the lights are fanning out everywhere BUT there. It would be cool to have it coming almost right at you, but slightly to the right, so the closest bulb was almost as big as the moon. Maybe 1/2 anyway. Also, I would suggest making the sidewalk luminous--light it up, having some glow reach just a bit up the walls and legs of the figures. It certainly isn't realistic, but you did say NPR. Another way to look at it would be in negative--see how the light really is like the darks of a daytime image--you want to balance the weight and the sidewalk doesn't provide enough weight. Finally--can the two side businesses have some glow in their windows? Who would want to go get glasses in a desolate area? Good luck with your deadline! Tim Nelson
Thanks for your comments Ernest. I really like the images on your web site. Very nice use of color in them.
Tim Nelson
So here's the final image...i think. I should have done more to it, but time is running out and I still have to print. Had a lot of fun with this one, but I need to spend more time learning my radiosity in viz4 so I don't have to spend so much time in photoshop - and get better results. I think in this case though, what I realy could have used is a Wacom tablet. Are there a lot of you that use them? http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Finalshot.jpg
Tim Nelson
Well I was bored so I've been playing with this image a bit. What do you think Ernest? Honestly I kind of wish I had done this before and pushed it even more on the NPR side. I like the hard black lines that it has now. Not sure if I like the super gradient levels though. Any comments would be welcome of course!

nichchris
Hi T Also since the lighs also sway in the wind(if it's windy) you should also try it on the lights.. I would try varying degrees of it until its works or not.. nichchris
