Devin Johnston
My latest attempt to use Maxwell, each image rendered for about 10 hours on 5 computers. They were still somewhat noisy but the resolution of each images was 4000x2727 so I was surprised they came out as clear as they did. Some of the materials came from the Maxwell materials web site. Adehus
Looks good, but maybe just a tad washed out. Might benefit from different materials for sidewalk vs pavement.
STRAT
not bad for a first effort. other than the texturing (and that sky??? ) the lighting looks pretty much non-gi, as mentioned
Devin Johnston
The developer I was working for didn't make material selections until it was to late so I had to go with monochrome colors. I was originally supposed to have 4 weeks to do 6 images (2 perspectives and 4 elevations) as it turns out I had 7 days. Needless to say I was under the gun big time and using Maxwell made the situation that much tougher. I did learn a lot about what Maxwell can and can't do, it's definitely not the engine to use when you are on a tight deadline. It was very difficult to produce proof images for my client when he wanted them the next day, again my time line shrank by 3 weeks.
Brian Cassil
It's definetly not your best work, but I can see with the timeline constraints why, and because of that maybe this isn't a real "fair shake" for maxwell. I'd be more interested to see what you could do with a more realistic timeline.
Devin Johnston
Yea it really makes me mad that I had to basically throw this together at the last minute. I've never had this happen before and as a result I'm going to be making extensive changes to the typical contract that I have my clients sign. One problem I had was with the physical sky not casting a dark enough shadow on the building. I find my self missing the old Light Scape method of setting up a skylight where you could manually adjust the sun. Because of those limitations I had to use a large emitter which didn't evenly distribute the light across the building.
Adehus
Given the deadline changes, why did you use Maxwell?
Devin Johnston
I suppose I was overlay optimistic as to how well Maxwell would perform on this project.
