Chris_Mac
Hi guys, I've been given a 3D DXF. It's a contour map, with the contours (polylines) at relevant heights. I've managed to open it in sketch up to have a look at it, and if I was able to import it to cinema 4D, I think I may be able to create a pretty decent site model from it... I just don't know how. When I import it directly into cinema, the lines don't come through, so it's basically an empty file. I have tried exporting from sketchup to cinema as a 3DS, but this doesn't work out either. We do have Vectorworks in the office, but I'm really pretty clueless as to its 3D capabilities. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AJLynn
I've imported files like that before, the key requirements are -Saved as the lowest version DXF you can use - for newer Autocads I think this is R12. -The contours are open polylines - these will import as splines and if you want them closed you can do that in Cinema. 4DM
We do have Vectorworks in the office, but I'm really pretty clueless as to its 3D capabilities. Import dxf into VW, export from VW as dxf. You may need to play around with some of the settings in the export and possibly import dialogs, and you may need to convert everything to 3D polys (Model>Convert to 3D Polygons) or even a mesh (Model>Convert to Mesh) in VW. But it's worth a try. Do let us know here which if any solution works for you. Cheers, D.
STRAT
yup, c4d only recognises r12 dxfs.
