23" cinema display and non-gaming ghosting issues

Recommended Posts

Alright, i just unwrapped this beaute, plugged it into my Quadro3400, and am getting a subtle ghosting within Max7 from windows that I have minimized, closed, or moved... even windows relating to the Max GUI such as a render frame, env & effects, etc. It is the worst when I go from a website back into Max because that leaves remnants of the text from said website in my max viewports which is totally annoying and distracting

I was running seemingly old Maxtreme drivers (sorry, didn't notice what version) and thought that was the problem so I downloaded the latest (Maxtreme 8.00.03) from the Nvidia website, uninstalled the old > restart > install new > restart > open Max and the same ghosting is happening.

ok, perhaps the Maxtreme drivers are causing the problems... so I downloaded the non-Maxtreme driver for xp32 > uninstalled maxtreme > rebooted > installed: ForceWare Release 90 Version: 91.36 > open Max again and still ~ the same thing is happening!!!

any advice on what I should do? The new Apple 23" displays are plug n play so there's no software I can install from that end to reify the problem... or is there?

has anyone else had issues with the Cinema HD Displays? ~ specifically the 23"?

thanks ahead of time

edit: just realized that the ghosting is also happening within the Firefox interface

I'm assuming since you checked which maxstream drivers you are using , that you are telling max to use them for the graphics mode. Anytime I log into my work computer from home using remote desktop, I have to boot max using the "change graphics mode" and put it into software mode instead of direct3d. If I forget to change it back the next day when I get to work I get something extactly like what you're describing. I guess I'm saying make sure you've got your graphics mode set right before you check anything else.....

thanks for the reply. I'll go through un/installing the maxtreme drivers again and see if somehow I missed changing graphics mode (don't think I did, but it's worth a try) ... we'll hope that cures it:D

you changed your Avatar ~ cute:p

I've a beagle too ... his name's "William Wallace"... or Willie for short;)

done ~ downloaded the 2nd listed version for the 23":

as per directions lower on that page: Display Properties => Advanced => Monitor Tab => Properties

Driver Tab => Update Driver => Install from specific location + next

Don’t search… + next => Have Disk => Browse… => {{Find the INF file…}}

… accept

... after all that I get : "the wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed...

a. keep current software installed

b. search again"

here is a screencap of what's happening on the desktop (I hope it shows up)

a shot of my desktop icons hanging out in the max interface:

just an update, the onscreen "wierdness" that I'm getting is almost like a burn-in type of effect. If I have, outlook or photoshop or anything with strong contrasting colors to my background (dk grey) the contrasting color is left after I close the window.

If I can't find something tonight I'm giving Apple a call first thing in the morn.

Same problem here, the ghost stalking me home! When the display brighten up they will be gone but when it gets dark-grey they will show up. seems like the emitting diode have some phisical limit, when the 23" are left with the same screen for a while the diode likely to get saturated and cant emit the correct color for a while. I think all LCD behave the same, they cant refresh as accurate as fast as CRT. wait a while and you will also notice that the 4 corners of the monitor show some strange color...

I might be wrong about the theory but i just get familiar with it, cant leave withou it. :)
