Ricardo Eloy
Well, this may sound weird, but... The new VRay 1.5 has the option to work with real world units for lights (ie, watts, lumens, etc). Not to mention the new PhysicalCamera. The question is:3ds max uses, by default, 1 unit=1 inch. Assuming I'm working in metric system, is that the right setting or should we change that in order to use these new features?
imgumbydammit
Someone may (will ?? ) correct me but I wouldn't think that lumens or watts are in any way linked to distance standards like inches or millimeters so it shouldn't make any difference as to what your world measurement standards are set to... vishesh_12
yes i agree with imgumbydammit completely. you can choose any unit settings as u want in max [ like inches, feet, mm, meters etc... ]. as long as you are making the scene according to the real world scale, it won't affect the lights at all. Cheers !!!
Ricardo Eloy
So, keep working with System units as 1 unit = 1 inch and things should work, right?
vishesh_12
yes, it will work
Ricardo Eloy
Ok... I just thought that since VRay now uses Watts and Lumens for lighting, maybe there was a "correct way" to work your units if you use meters/centimeters/whatever metric unit you like. Thanks for the input!
