alias_marks
well hello everyone. So here's the deal: I'm trying to use a tif file as a reference for modelling and would like the texture to show up on my object in wireframe so I can see what I'm doing under my model. Problem is every time I go to wireframe it displays my box, with my reference image on it, as a wire frame too . Anyone know how to keep just this one object from displaying as a wire when I go to wireframe mode? I've tried endless googleing with no luck. Thanks for the help! Koper
Im not sure I understand you correctly here, you either maped your reference onto your object and you cant see the reference when in wire frame mode or you can only see the reference (which is on facing planes in the front and left views), when in wire frame. F3 switched between wire frame and shaded modes, when in shaded mode, press F4, this gives you a shaded wire frame, then select the object and right-click, from the pop-up menu select properties, check the see through box, or you can set the amount on how much the object must be see through. Ohterwise i miss-understood you
notamondayfan
or you could create a temporary material, with a low opacity, and apply it to your model while you work.
notamondayfan
or also, just thinking, you could trace the image with splines, and use them as referance too. ive seen this done when modeling characters and such.
Ky Lane
or you could create a temporary material, with a low opacity, and apply it to your model while you work. This is exactly how I do it. Model, then materials, then lighting...then ALOT of work
alias_marks
Cool guys, great tips, I appreciate the help. I've actually gone in at either changed my materials to wireframe or change the opacity level before so I can see through them which works fairly well. However, sometimes it's hard to manipulate still. For those of you having similar issues, I've found a nifty trick after posting this. if you hit "alt + x" is toggles whichever object you have selected to "trasparent mode" and back to it's original material again if hit again. It's a lot easier to see and manipulate your verts & edges. Note: I did have all of my objects in transparent mode and accidently tried to test render and Max immeadiately crashed with no option to try and save. maybe just the video settings on my particular system, but something to watch out for . Thanks! Michael
Koper
cool shortcut, now i learned something new, thanx! as for the crash with no save, check your 'Autoback' folder inside the max folder. max autosave every few minutes.
