Brian Smith
Did you go to the recovery directory and get the file's backup...assuming you allow backups?
DavidR
Max is pretty flaky this way. There's no way I've found to recover a corrupt file, but you can try merging the corrupt scene into a new, empty scene. If that doesn't work, try merging 1 thing at a time, or groups of things, to recover what you can. Save after each successful merge. To avoid future heartache, go to preferences, and turn on incremental save. Personally, I don't like autosave because I work with big scenes on a network, so the autosave kicks in breaking my flow for a long time. I ctrl-s every few minutes, so I always have a bunch of incrementally-numbered files. I delete all but the last 2, just to be safe. I started doing this ~5 years ago after an unrecoverable file cost me a week's work, and I've never lost more than 15m work since then, so I know it works. In fact, at work, it's become absolutely mandatory to use incremental save -if someone were to lose a week's work because they turned it off, there would be serious consequences for them. notamondayfan
yup, ditto as what david says. always make itterations of files. try opening the file on another machine, with mental ray preset as the default renderer.
