I am trying to make a switch from autocad modeling to viz. I usually draw everything as polyline and extrude it. In viz, i am trying to draw lines as i snap to a linked autocad drawing. The problem is, how do i zoom in and out of different parts of the drawing while still keeping the line command active?

please help,

thanks

actually why are moving to viz to model...

if you use ADT, and linking it seems a better way to do it..

r:D :D :D

Well i wanted to learn viz modeling because soemtimes, when i link or insert autocad drawings, i get weird geometry shading or just weird triangle shapes in my square forms.

Anybody dealt with this?

MAX/VIZ have always had notoriously bad import from AutoCAD and related products. Anything other than 2D data coming in is usually in need of so much clean up that its usually quicker just to remodel it in MAX/VIZ in the first place.

I'd say perservere with learning to model in VIZ - it took me around 6 months to make the transition to modelling entirely in MAX and I've never looked back since. The only thing I use AutoCAD/Microstation for now is 2D drawing clean-up before importing into MAX.

I am doing my best, but I am at the beginning stages and its hard. I cant for example draw a continuous polyline around an object and panning at the same time. And i cant do a perpendicular line to another line. I am sure ill get the hang of it one day though.
