Ricardo Eloy
Hey, guys! It's been a long time since my last post in this section (nothing worth looking at going on). Now, I finally have something I like and I would appreciate your input. This is a personnal project of a home office I'm working on. It started as a light study, to be honest, but turned out that I liked the way it looked and decided to give it a real shot. There are some things to add, such as books, objects on the desk, maybe a rug... And light fixtures (as soon as I find one I like). Feel free to throw the tomatoes! BTW, this is Max 5 and VRay. No PS yet. [] Rick
MDB
hi rick , good work .. very very fine as usual only see .. a couple of things ( and can be .. very personnel ) - DO you like this "hard" shadows ? .. are really good.. but i would try vrayshadow area shadow .. box .. with 6 6 6 or something around it . - Do u use vraylight outside windows ? if so.. try to high a little the multiplier.. the light of the direct light comin outside the windows is very strong.. butif u have put vraylight outside.. are very down ... with 2 or 3 vraylight with more multiplier.. u can get really good ambient effects..(keeping in mind not burn the interior, specially the windows ) Overall .. great .. technical great.. the C&C are only things personnel. congratulations
bigcahunak
Hi Rick. very nice image, and space. Here is my tomatoes sack: With such big windows and such a strong outside light the room should be much brighter. It looks like if there is almost no indirect lighting. Technically I have no idea what it is, but the room have to have more light in it.The bright part in the lower end of the desk seems odd. maybe it has to do with the previous item I wrote, but it looks like light comming from the floor and cant bounce more than a few centimeters high. Maybe it a unit thing? ans also maybe it has to do with the really really black shadow line runing at the corner where the floor meets the side panels.Think about it - in a day with such a strong outside light and windows that big, it would almost be impossible watching TV, while in your room the TV area looks like a night scene. As far as view angle, I'd want to see some of the wall infront of the desk (maybe a door) dunno, it looks somewhat unbalanced, but wait for Ernest for that (he is much better with cam locations)What are these two light archs next to the TV? Is it light? reflection? it doesnt look like texture... is it?... hmmmLast tomato, and its only cause you said its a personal project, so I dont know if its up to you or not, but - The room, open space and big windows gives a feeling of an office belongs to an important manager of somekind... Now, that bookcase looks somewhat cheap. For such a room I'd design the shelves, the TV, and those two light fixtures as part of the whole wall. Something that would look cleaner and more organized. But hey, thats only me with my design taste. Overall there is a great feel in the image. Cant wait to see progress on it. Good luck.
Ricardo Eloy
Thanks for the feedback, guys! MDB: The area shadow thing is really a great idea! I didn't think of that! And, yes, I'm still working on the light, so it won't be dark for long. Tks! bigcahunak: As I said, light is still undedr development, but you are right about it. About the light bouncing from the floor onto the desk, that's a reflection, not really light bounces. The wood material I used for the desk was a little too reflective, that's why it's so noticeable. The TV set is still with its deefault materials. I was actually to render it as if it was off, but I simply forgot to turn it off... The light arcs are reflected. Just don't ask me WHAT is reflected, I can only guess it's the light on the floor... Thank you again! I'll be posting an update soon! id_ivan
one thing to add, I hate the light coming straight forward to the scene . i used to drag 'em a bit. I love NW, SW, NE, SE sun. I won't come up to your place if you have that kind of sun :???:

Sawyer
Rick - personally I think you could set up a wicked composition. Think about trading out the tv for something more visual. Something interesting, maybe just a s*** load of books then rotate your couch so it is not closing the image off. Then maybe plants and a rug for foreground. Just an idea. Ernest Burden III
I agree that you should angle the sun just a bit off of 90 degs from the centerline of the room. I would rather see it going into the room a bit (AWAY FROM VIEWER) so that you see the mullions stripe down the frame edge, and sun hit the sides of the furniture. You wouldn't want to work in a space with all that sun coming in, especially on a computer. Oh, and HORIZON. Come on, people, check your horizons! I'm already working on the sun position and other things you guys told me to. About the working space, I totally agree with you, I wouldn´t want to work there either. But that is just for the sake of the image, nothing else. And (ouch! :gebigeek: ), you're right about the horizon. You were the first one to notice that! I'll be changing it shortly. Thank you all for the feedback! PS: Update coming tonight (I hope) [] Rick
Ernest Burden III
Ernest! I was wondering when you would show up!I was busy all weekend working on a seamless tile for a bathroom floor. Well, its pretty seamless, best I could do. Everything is done except getting the 'potty' back in place. You know, this sort of work is a lot easier in a computer. Some blisters, some band-aids, a sore back, more quality time at the Home Despot store. Tiling a bathroom floor--another job best left to the professionals. But it looks nice. Ricardo Eloy
He,he,he...That's hard work, Ernest! My father used to make me do this kind of stuff quite often... But now the house is finished and I can rest. :ngelaugh: Anyway, I tried to upload this yesterday, but work was murder. So, after reviewing the image and all the things you guys suggested, here is the new version. Hope you like it! I guess there's still a lot to adjust, but my eyes are kind of tired from it, so I need your help once again! Shoot at will! [] Rick
Wilson Iwazawa
Wow :gebigeek: great image Rick, the floor of the last one is wonderfull!! I´ve two comments...i dont know if im wrong but in the ceiling next the window, the area light is so concentrated, because of the size of the windows, it would be more longer, and less contrastant...its the only thing that shows me it as a cg work... and the other thing is the general color bleeding, if you hide the downside of it, you imagine a cold ambient, and if you hide the topside, it be hot...the wall of the windows is great, but the one on the tv side seems so cold...the first image can be a example of better distribuition after this, the only thing i have to say is that i´d rather drink lots of "todynho" to achieve this level of render, congratulations
Ricardo Eloy
Thanks a lot, Uirsu! I totally agree with you about the warm/cold feeling of it. In fact, I'm adjusting it right now, for there's something I just noticed: the sunlight is partly blocked. You can see that in the shadow casted by the first window (looks like half a shadow). Anyway, the new sun should bring more of that warm feeling to it. Let's see if I can post it tonight. Thank you for your comments (you already HAVE drank a lot o Toddynho, I know your work, Mr! ) BTW, another try! I was not talking about THIS forum, Big! I was talking about a brazilian forum I also posted these on. I got like 3 or 4 replies there. As you know, CGA will always be my favourite spot! But it's nice to have different c&c's. About your comments, those "pencils" :ngelaugh: you mentioned are B&O speakers! :ngelaugh: ... And, yes, the books are still all the same (just filling the shelves to see what it would look like). I'm still collecting books to scan here and add later on. For the floor material, it's wood material I created myself. You can see the gaps between the pieces and all. Maybe I have to re-work the texture... Thanks again for you reply! Maybe I have to re-work the texture...Well, now that you are saying Ican see the gaps but just barely... painting texture can really be a nightmare - I just finished redoing the same texture about 3 times from scratch... each time it looked ok in PS, but not as expected after rendering. Good luck.
bigcahunak
Hi again eloy Light in the room is much better, even though it could still be worked onPersonally I dont like those standing 'pencils' you added thereAnd, now that we see more of the bookcase itself, I can see that I also dont like those silver drawers (or doors)Are all books same size and color?Last - I'd definitelly change the floor material - something with texture, preferably And dont say you aren't getting replies in this "other forum"... choochee
well I likes the first image best, most dramatic even that was less informative. Didn't know CG artists in that level live in Brasil (I practice Capoeira and never been in Brasil yet) !

Didn't know CG artists in that level live in Brasil (I practice Capoeira and never been in Brasil yet) ! To be honest, I like the dramatic one better, too. But as you said, it's less informative, so I decided to go for a more conventional approach. So, you really practice capoeira? Hehe, that's cool! I have a friend who does. It's awesome what capoeira fighters can do, jumping in the air like that! :gebigeek: You should come to Brasil to check it out, specially in Salvador (Bahia). It's nice! And thank you for the compliments. I'm not sure if my level is really high, though. I know people here that are light-years ahead of me. Thank you for your comments! choochee
You don't have to be so modest...you are very good with such results (how much time did it take ? maybe that's why U think you are not so good...). I sing about Bahia almost every practice.... I plan to visit Brasil one day for sure !
Ernest Burden III
those "pencils" :ngelaugh: you mentioned are B&O speakers! :ngelaugh: I got that. So why is the couch facing a damned TV? You aren't going to tell me that you would waste good speakers on 'dolby surround 5+1' are you? Chuck the idiot-box and put in a quality stereo instead. Maybe a nice tube amp, adding more warm, yellow light to the darker area of the room? About the light--I agree that the image is much better with the new angle, but I would expect to see much more bounced light in the room. Don't be a slave to 'physically accure' materials and GI systems. Get more soft light into the room from all that strong sunlight. I like the floor, its true its too blurred, but the effect is really pleasent--I'ld keep it. Thank you for fixing the horizon, I am much happier now. Oh, and Rick, you must know that NO house is ever finished.
Ricardo Eloy
The light thing is really a pain... But I'm still working, you know...I'll keep lighting it, still trying to avoid that artificial lamp look. About those appliances you mentioned...I'll keep that in mind. Gonna look for something better to put there! BTW: my father definetly seems to agree with you about the house, Ernest... :gebigeek: [] Rick

Ricardo Eloy
Well, after a long time without free time, I finally got to modify the image. This time, improved lights, books and floor reflections. For the floor, I decided to make it a little less reflective, guess it's more realistic. The books took me a while to accomplish. I have now 23 different books on the shelves. Do you guys think it's working? Anyway, can't wait to see your c&c's! [] Rick
