AJLynn
Can anybody give me recommendations for good vendors for 3DSMax and Vray? Specifically, I need to buy a Max 6 to Max 8 upgrade, a subscription for Max and a Vray Advanced license. Trinity seems to have good prices, but I don't really know anything about any of these companies so I'd like some opinions.
Chad Warner
I've bought stuff from trinity before and they were good to deal with. I'd buy from them again. Of course you can get Vray from Vismasters, though. As far as Max goes, I believe you have to buy from a local reseller, but I would check the Autodesk site. Verma
Here's a link to locate your local authorized Autodesk reseller: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=1088201 As far as V-Ray is concerned, Trinity is authorized and so is my company. If you need to look for more authorized reseller then look here: http://www.chaosgroup.com/software/vray/distributors/ Good Luck.
AJLynn
Huh. So can anybody explain to me why Autodesk's regional monopoly policy is not illegal?
William Alexander
Huh. So can anybody explain to me why Autodesk's regional monopoly policy is not illegal? The local resellers are distributors-like car dealerships. Totally controlled by the company granting the distributorship...not a monolopy. AutoDesk giveth the dealerships-resellers permission and can taketh away, Ask Murph Don't believe it's right or wrong....just is what it is. Just buy the flippin upgrade direct from the AutoDesk web site...the resellers very rarely are allowed to discount anyway, especially to individuals from my experience. Unless you are really that needy for support and require a local contact.
AJLynn
It's okay, I found one - and there's a discount you can get from resellers that you can't get from the Autodesk web site. Still, I stand by what I said - the regional market division system sounds questionable. I think if Microsoft tried it they'd get FTC'ed.
Verma
There was a time when us resellers did not have any territorial restrictions and everyone was authorized to sell Max nationwide. The problem was rediculous price discounts and cut throat competition and that's why Autodesk put territorial restrictions on their resellers. It helps focusing on certain area, better service, availability and the product does not get devalued. We are quite happy with these rules and get to serve our customers better this way. notamondayfan
I think if Microsoft tried it they'd get FTC'ed. microsoft was a different sort of monopoly. the whole trouble really started when they gave away IE for free with windows, which hardly any company could compete with. with 3d graphics programs, there are several big programs, (max, maya, lightwave etc), so it isnt the same as microsoft really.
