jophus14
If I want to export an automobile with full textures included, how can I go about doing this in VIZ/Max? I want to export from one scene to another without having for re-apply all of my materials. Thanks
manta
no need to export, in the new scene just do "file" then "merge" and merge the car into the new scene, it will come in just as it was saved in the car scene...
jophus14
Thanks manta. That sounds much easier anyways.
BrianKitts
option 2 - would be save the car out by itself into a model file and xref it as an object. Under the same menu select "xref objects" that way you have a dynamic link to the original instead of making a copy. So if you have that car in 20 scenes and you're told to change the color, you only have to do it in one place. Conversly if you want to change it from the original but leave the original intact, merge as mentioned is the way to go.
jophus14
I have a problem when I merge my car into the new scene. The car explodes into smaller groups and is pulled apart. The tires, wheels, brakes, and rotors are all a foot away from one another. This goes on with all of the other parts too. I grouped my car as a whole prior to merging it into the new scene. Any idea why it is doing this or a way to avoid this from happening? Thanks
jophus14
Anybody have any idea how to fix this problem or any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
jafs00
before merging the scene 1. open the original car scene and save as a copy 2. select the car, select group>explode 3. select all the components and right click, when the quad menu comes up, select convert to editable poly or editable mesh, whichever you prefer. 4. select all the car parts and group into one object 5. save the scene 6. open the scene where you wish to merge the car 7. select merge scene. When the merge scene dialogue opens, you will be able to selct your car as the group you previooulsly named in step 4. 8. sometimes cars are misscaled to the scene, so what I do is draw a rectangle measuring 1.9 meters(6.25 feet) wide (why?, most cars vary in length but it is a rare care which is more than 1.9 meters wide, probably SUVs and pickup trucs are wider but not by much, no more than 10 cm.(4 inches))position your car model onto the rectangle and select the uniform scale tool, scale the car until it lines up aproximatedly with the width of the rectangle. Ray
When scaling cars I always use the wheelbase of the particular model of car.
