Mapping Bricks to an arch

I recently secured a housing development job with

250 houses / 14 house types with a clatter of

brick arch's all over them.

If i model out the arch as an extruded polygon

can someone please tell me how to map an arched brick

soldier course to the heads of the windows.

This is causing me no end of grief..... in the past i have

always modelled each brick and mortar joint but it seems

silly with with such a large number of arches all at a

different radius

Thanks for any advice

Hi there,

I am sure there are better ways, but the simplicity of this method cannot be denied. It accompishes the model / map portion of the arch itself, anything that would extend as straight beyond would need be additonal.

Build a box. Be sure to allow for 10-20 steps in the 3 dimensions, you will see once you have competed, then you can reduce where you can for streamilining. Apply your UVW & brick map. Apply the bend modifier, and that is it. YOur first time, play and explore the various settings - steps in the box, the differnt directions in the bend mod. Works like a charm I think.

I also know that Unwrap UVW is the "right" way, but this works too.

Attached is a demo file of setting up a mapped arch in C4D. Note that the splines themselves can be created in other apps like FormZ, AutoCAD and so forth.

Basically you put a profile spline and one or two path splines in a sweep nurbs. Attributes such as growth, rotation and scale are adjustable and completely animatable. The texture map should be applied with UV and "stuck" if you decide to turn the object into polys.
