ssstrutz
Hello all, I am new to vray and I am using the free downloaded version with autodesk viz4. Is it possible to use vray materials with this version of viz and vray free? The ones I have downloaded come up with some sort of error and I am unable to use it when I insert through the material browser. Thanks, Scott
Tim Nelson
Hi Scott, I am pretty sure that Vray materials are disabled in the Vray free version.
frank1331
Tim you are correct. You cannot use vray materials in the free version.
ssstrutz
Thanks for the messages. That is too bad. Do you have any suggestions as to materials that would work best with vray free? Are there any special settings that would help my images look more realistic? It is kind of difficult to decide if I would like to purchase the program if I can't get a real idea as to how the images can look. Also, am I not finding the vray lights, or do they not come with the free version also? Thanks, Scott
Joseph Petrino
No vray lights in vray free. You want the demo version instead.
ssstrutz
It appears the only download possible for viz 4 is the free version(not the demo). Can you get the demo version anywhere for Autodesk viz 4?
creasia
I much prefer the full version, but I have made due with only Vray free before. The best you can do with vray free is use the vray map in standard max material reflection and refraction map slots. I think you can use it in the opacity slot as well. Select the Vray shadow for the active shadow on the Max light shadow parameters. You can change the softness of the shadow edge my changing the Max light U and V size under the vary shadow settings on the light modifier panel. The brazil HDRI map works to bring in HDRIs in. Test your settings on small 160x120 renders and then do your final render in high res. Have fun!
