Biped Questions

I'm following the biped tutorials that come with the program, and i have some trouble with them, could you help me?

 

1.- When in figure mode, posing the biped with the mesh, you select, say, an arm, then go to "track selection rollout" and press "symmetrical" and the other arm gets selected too. Now if you rotate the arm, the other arm is supposed to rotate in the opposite direction, because it's "symmetrical". However when i do this, the two arms rotate in the same direction. Why? What i'm doing wrong?

 

2.-When animating with footsteps, if i select footsteps or a body part, their keys are supposed to appear automatically in track view-dopesheet. However when i select the footsteps and open track view, nothing appears. i expand all the tracks but nothing, there is no footsteps track and keys. What i'm doing wrong? It's very frustating...
