image posting methods

just curious if someone has an answer for this.......

 

Is there a benefit that I don't know about to posting images on the forums with outside hosting companies like imageshack? I just don't get it, cgarchitect has the built in image uploading capability, it's simple enough for a primal ape to figure out and doesn't cost anything. I mean I know I love popups as much as the next guy when trying to view stuff on the net, but is there really any point..... or is it a history thing like forums in the past haven't had the ability to image host and some people just aren't used to it being available?

the only benefit is that you can use externally hosted images wherever you wish.

Honestly....1/2 the images I see with an image shack address I don't bother opening because of the pop-ups...almost any other image hosting service is better..

That's a possibility, some also want the option to be able to remove and or update the images at a later date and don't realize they can also do that on the forums as well.

I agree on that, I think its the main reason.

I've always thought it must be size restriction but you can get just about any image of medium resolution below 300k with no noticeable quality reduction.

 

Those pop ups do my head in.
