Sawyer
So boys and girls the word for today is service. Good Service - Not only would I go out of my way and pay a bit more for better service but I would go out of my way to crush bad service. I am so tired of crappy little teenagers who don't know anything, or even worse managers who shift blame. Yesterday I was placing an add in the local yellow pages. No they would not send me an e-mail with their rates I had to meet this really green sales lady everytime I had a question. Then yesterday she forgot about our meeting. She called me an hour and a half later saying her meeting ran late and she would buy me coffee. Part of me wanted to point out that my time is more valuable than $1.75 but I let it go. Then I went to the local print shop to pick up my print and they had printed it poorly. It looked to me like the printer ran out of ink for the last 1". I said so but the manager said that that was impossible and that something was wrong with my file and that while he did not see anything wrong with the file it was impossible that the print was wrong. I also pointed out that the colors were off and he said that I needed to bring in a print so they could match it. Anyway this just makes me more and more aware of how important good service is in what we do. This matters it is important and people care. You don't have to like me or think I am right but you have to treat me well. There have been times when I know I dropped the ball on the best service and I feel bad. JamesTaylor
i agree... like they say, if you want something done properly do it yourself... unfortunately you'd never sleep if you stuck to that rule!
Jeff Mottle
I'm with ya Sawyer! Maybe I am less tollerant than most, that's quite posible, but I lose it when I get poor service. I think I can count on both hands the number of times I've had exceptional service in my lifetime. Sad really.
Sawyer
I ended up going to Kinkos and talked with a few of the employees there. They plotted my image on all the machines, different paper and let me use the photoshop there until I found a good color match. Then they didn't charge me for the print because it took over an hour to do the work. KINKOS! But I have to say they are just about the only service I have used this week that I would go back to. Iain Denby
Apart from james, I think the rest of you are showing the reduced tolerence that comes with getting older. By the way, I've felt like this for MANY years now.
Brian Cassil
Funny you mention Kinkos, because when I first start thinking about bad service the first thing that comes to my mind are print shops, especially the nation wide stores. It's amazing that they let you on to the computers. I used to ask that all the time after all my efforts to explain the concept of color matching to them proved futile. I'll go ahead and throw my wifes major complaint about service. Gorcery stores! The local store will NEVER help her out with the bags, even when she was pregnant and hauling two other small kids along with her! Wow, I really am getting old. Sawyer
Brian you and your wife need to move here. The grocery people here must have heard your wife they are most insistant about helping with the bags. Here is an example of bad customer service as demonstrated by my children: The 2 year old is crying I go in to see what is wrong and the 5 year old has this look like she is tring to kill the younger one with her eyes. I ask what happened why is the little one crying. The older one says "She hit herself in the face." If you hit your sister thats one thing but don't lie. Now has anyone heard of GIMP? The kinko guys told me about it said its a free portable photoshop like program that you run from a small USB drive. I think the reason the people at Kinkos were helpful today is that they were all photographers so we were speaking a common language. Here is the link that I was given today. http://portableapps.com/ Portable apps may be old news to you guys it seems pretty smart to me.
Brian Cassil
GIMP: The GNU Image Manipulation Program Yep, I think it's really popular with the linux crowd. The folks in our office who don't have PS use that for looking at images and doing a little editing. I've never used it but I've heard it's actually quite capable. Hitting herself in the face... that's a good one. You have to give her credit for trying. The people at Kinkos were photographers!? Wow, there must be a more capable work force where you live because the ones around here should probably be flipping burgers.

Helpful & knowledgable. I have dl GIMP for my USB drive. I looks good. Pretty close to PS actaully did not see adjustmen layers however which would be good for adjusting a file away from the office and then I see those changes at home.
