Ernest Burden III
Ditto. Chaos gave everybody codes to be able to still use 1.5, didn't they? I want to get v1.5, too.
Crazy Homeless Guy
Chaos gave everybody codes to be able to still use 1.5, didn't they? I want to get v1.5, too. yep. ...more or less. they issued a file that will change the license authentication on 1.5 from the dongle back to the old license server. we were going to wait for the dongles, but changed our minds a couple of days ago, when we releaized it may be a couple of months before our dongles get here. i don't know that is how long the dongles will take, i am just saying. MegaPixel
Bummer, and all the hype before siggraph made it seem like the release was ready for immediate release right after siggraph I'm still holding out for the dongle though because messing around with the licensing for my 24 pc farm back to back doesn't sound fun. I don't think you need to licence those computers if your doing network rendering or even DR for that matter...
Crazy Homeless Guy
I don't think you need to licence those computers if your doing network rendering or even DR for that matter... correct, but i am partial to megapixel's situation. you don't need to license vray for a network rendering setup, but you d need to copy the files to each machine, which can spell trouble quickly if you are not careful. Bummer, and all the hype before siggraph made it seem like the release was ready for immediate release right after siggraph I'm still holding out for the dongle though because messing around with the licensing for my 24 pc farm back to back doesn't sound fun. ....even though we have installed it, i have not distributed it to the render farm yet. i had an automated way of updating all the machines with batch files at start up, but that has changed in the last couple of months. our IT dept. is trying to push all installs and updates from one location to all the computers on the floor using LanDesk. it really takes away a lot of my control. one thing that i am thinking abot trying on our farm is to replace the file that contains all of the 3dsmax paths with a universal file that points back to the network for all plugins, scripts, etc... this way i don't have to copy them to each computer, i just place them in one location. i don't think this will work with vray becaus it places files in the root directory of 3dsmax, but i am not sure. there could be a way to get around that also. . If you figure out the last part, make sure you share how you did it. We have all of our plugins on a central drive, but some of them still require files in the max root directory (vray included) which is a pain to update. foxlee
Still not received my dongle at all. Having to do interiors on vray free. Anybody in the same boat. look at the start date of this. In my opinion this is not on .I paid the same money as anybody on any continent, all of the excuses and blocking of this issue on their forum aside. Employ people to get it done? Chad Warner
If you download the 1.5rc3 version, it can use the same software license server as the earlier 1.47 version, so you don't need a dongle.
martin walker
Im a bit worried about the RC3 build....there was a thread about problems using VRay materials with multi-sub objects...
BrianKitts
there is a bug with the "affect alpha" option when it is placed in a multi/subobject. They've made note that they are fixing it and there is a workaround for the problem posted on chao's forums.. http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17187 other than that it's solid, not really anything to complain about as far as I'm concerned. foxlee
Thanks for the replies and help , but its a new computer. So I have to transfer i think my existing license onto that, for the fix to work. I should probably try the fix again . I will only have time in a week or so to try again. I have had such enormous work pressure for the past six months, that I do not want to risk any software breakdown. To be fair, Vray did reply to my email. It would just be easier if I was sure that it would work first time.
Christopher Nichols
RC3 is really solid and works with the old licensing scheme. There is a delay in getting dongles out to people so they made the install work with either licensing scheme. Since we got the dongle when we were at Siggraph, it works well. We even had all 5 licences programed onto that one dongle which is on our license server. The licensing is very easy to manage now, and because it is on a dongle we can easily transfer the licensing to another computer without having to contact Chaos. Simply move the dongle to the new licensing box. There is even a web interface to check where all the licenses are, who is using them, etc...
