moshenko
I heard it was coming, but it seems to have been slipped into the Dell website very quietly. Check out the X2 options at Dell: http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/results.aspx/desktops?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=CABSDT1&~ck=anav&a=23~0~21035&navla=23~0~21035 Obviously, they're not powerhouse machines anymore (Core2 Duo's seemed to have taken care of that) and the RAM is somewhat limited, but it's interesting that they've just kind of "appeared". Has Dell offered AMD in the US for a while?
MegaPixel
Wonder if it has something to do with Dell's recent acusition of Alienware, who almost exclusivly used AMD products. It's all part of Dell's arsenal now. In another year or so, the XPS series will start looking a little beefier I'm sure.
manta
its pretty ironic really, now that intel is finally hot...

moshenko
I remember reading an article about Dell wanting to beef up their server line with Opteron capabilities, presumably because the older Xeons were such dogs. I just didn't expect the consumer-level machines to get the AMD treatment. But yes, it is kind of ironic timing. If Dell can integrate both Intel's and AMD's latest and greatest at the same time, it will certainly make for great purchase decisions!
Ernest Burden III
Dell has always been hostile to we AMD fans. It's obvious that they had some exclusives contracted with Intel, probably for better pricing, and were not concerned that someone like me would buy elsewhere. Maybe Intel isn't willing to cut them the same discounts, or they feel they have simply lost too much business to competitors like HP who have added AMD products to their lines (I own one). I would be wary of Dell's commitment to AMDs, given their history. But if they sell well and are good products, then maybe this is a permanent change for Dell. One would think that a bottom-line company like Dell would have seen AMD as a way to simply sell more product, particularly in the past couple of years when AMD has trounced Intel on performance. I hope this signals some better years ahead for Dell; they are desperate to regain some market lost to HP. Wouldn't it be nice to peek at Dell's workstations in a few months and see the choice of both AMD and Intel quad-core boxes?
