wturner_99
Hi there I am wondering whether anyone has tried 3D models library from http://www.proviz3d.com, and http://www.archivision.com The cost different is huge and if anyone out there has experience, please send some thought Rgds WT
chuck
the proviz ones are animated poorly and they don't look that good. they don't need character studio, but they do look unnatural. i couldn't find 3d models on the archivision site. i really like the look of the aXYZ products. you can get still packages or animatable ones that use motion capture data that looks correct in an animation... http://www.axyz-design.com/
wturner_99
Hi Chuck Thanks for your info. I mistyped the link, it was supposed to be: http://www.archvision.com. They have some 3D collection there although the cost is substantially higher than http://www.proviz3d.com The axyz collection is very good although the price of is higher than proviz3d. Any other alternative beside axyz with the same price range as proviz3d? regards WT
Devin Johnston
The AXYZ people mostly look like monsters when you get to close to them. They don't work in every situation and I would only use them when they are far enough away from the camera to hide their weird looking faces. RPC's are the best all around solution that is out there at this time.
wturner_99
Is RPC good for high resolution rendering? And if anyone has time, please compare between these websites: www.proviz3d.com, www.got3d.com, www.lowpolygon3d.com I will make a purchase by this week Your help is greatly appreciated rgds WT
BrianKitts
RPC is a substancial resolution that you can get away with them at a decent size. If you are going really high res with them up close, they have a high resolution library if I remember correctly. But you also have to be aware that they can do funny things sometimes, specially when rendering with GI. Sometimes you have to be a little selective to what RPC's you use so that they fit the scene, alot of them look over-bright or the lighting just doesnt match, no matter how much you tweak their settings. They also can get funky with their reflections sometimes, the reflection on a floor might start a few inches from their feet as opposed to right at the feet as they should. And they don't do well for aerials, once you get above a certain angle they look odd. I'm not a huge fan of them, but maxer is right..... they work well, but don't go in to your purchase thinking they're perfect. So it's a trade off. RPC's are more realistic, but sometimes they kill the realism of the scene buy not matching the lighting and the stick out like sore thumbs. Some of the other libraries you mentioned of modeled low-polygon people will fit with the lighting but don't look as realistic from a close view. So it basically depends on how you plan on using them.
wturner_99
That's very weird artifact that you showed me from archvision 3D people. I have made a decision and will purchase some from www.proviz3d.com and www.axyz-design.com Thanks for all your help rgds WT
wturner_99
Just wondering, does the rpc people requires rigging like the rest ? or they work with some sort of plugin? they are quire expensive for $75 for each people, I can get 8 people in axyz and 10 in proviz3d. rgds WT
Devin Johnston
No the RPC people are all pre-programmed which makes them much easier to use and much more valuable in an animation situation. That's one thing I don't like about AXYZ people, you either have to animate them your self or use their MOCAP data which I still haven't figured out how to use yet. BrianKitts
not necessary a rigging..... but you do have to install the (free) max plugin from archvision. Which will allow you to mass populate/edit the rpcs. They also have a plugin that will allow you to drop RPC content directly into photoshop. Matt McDonald
Sounds like its too late, but for what it's worth I agree with Maxer the low poly 3D people do look like monsters and in our light setup they sure didn't render well. The RPC stuff is easy and fast. They may not look fantastic but neither do the low poly people. If "it looks ok" is the best I can do I'll take the "ok" that has fewer polygons and that's RPC. wturner_99
So is there any product out there that looks fantastic and easy to use? WT
Devin Johnston
Doesen't look like it, you'll just have to pick the one that works the best for you.
