bigroo
Hi all, I think my graphics card is faulty but I would like a second (or third) opinion. I hooked up my TFT to my laptop to have an extended desktop which was fine but when I hooked it back up to my desktop it had the on screen menu error 'no signal - check cable' or something like that. I checked the cable & monitor by re-hooking it up to the laptop - they're fine. I checked the cable on another monitor - that's fine. I even tried the old monitor to the desktop - nothing except 'no signal - check cable' even though I had the same cable on it that worked! The thing is I get all of the Windows boot up screen (dos stuff etc) but when it tries to kick into Windows full, nothing. Is the graphics card (PNY 128 Geforce 5700 Nvidia) faulty or is it something else? Thanks for looking and hopefully you can offer assistance before I buy another one (I know I need to ). AJLynn
I had a similar problem, last year in studio I had a PC there with a DVI video card, adapter and analog monitor. Sometimes I had to borrow the monitor cable to hook up a laptop to a projector, so I'd turn off the monitor, take the cable, put it back later and turn the monitor on, and no signal. I figured it must have had something to do with the converting. But when I hard rebooted it would work. In your case... do you have any way of getting a Windows interface? Tried safe mode? Sounds like something to do with the driver, if you can get safe mode you could uninstall the driver and install a new one.
alfienoakes
Try safe mode as mentioned. Could be the graphics card has changed the default settings to something that is out of range of the monitor.. especially if you have had it plugged into another device. Safe mode is a good start... Andy PS.. just re-read the post and realise it was the TFT that was plugged into the laptop, and not the pc that was moved... but safe mode anyway ..! Lester_Masterson
Not that this is advice or anything, but... I feel your pain I have a PNY FX1000 card (NVidia) and 2 identical Viewsonic G90f CRT's. Everything was fine for about a year, then one day...poof. One of the monitors will not respond, similar to your issue (BIOS ok, DOS ok, Windows XP cricket! cricket!) Monitor works fine in Windows 2000, and with ATI cards. FX1000 card works fine with NEC monitor, other ViewSonic and any LCD. Have tried several DVI adapters, and oodles of NVidia patches, even installing the default drivers that came with the card. Have given up and gone to an X1800GTO ATI card and am loving it. ( Only $240 CDN ) Now I sleep easier and drink less coffee Just my 2¢

bigroo
Ah, well I can't get F8 to work on this keyboard for some reason. Del works, F9 works but not F8. How else can I get it to SAFEBOOT?
bigroo
Just in case anyone's tuning in, the F8 thing worked a treat but I had to revert to an old wired keyboard as the os didn't recognise the wireless one. Cheers all
