Andrew Roane
Hey, I am building this model of a house just for practice, and I have these dark black areas that I don't know how to get rid of. I tried applying a brick texture, but the black shows up in the rendered image as well. How can I fix this?...or, how can I prevent it from showing up in my models to begin with? Thanks. Sketchrender
Re build the block that is black trust me it is a point that is off.
mooney102
What are you rendering with? I have been having the same problem, I think that whenever there is doubled up objects, Vray 1.5 will render them out black. Any feedback would help on this issue. richmondlu
Check your normals..If they have that in max? If you do your going to want to harden your normals.
Andrew Roane
I am rendering with the standard scanline renderer. I don't think that the render engine is the problem though, because it was showing up before I ever rendered the image. I'm going to try and find a way to harden the normals, and I'll see if that works. Thanks.
jsf
3ds max does wierd stuff like this with lofts and sweeps when they turn corners. To solve it, try creating a new loft or sweep with a straight line segement and then miter the corner manually. Use boolean subtract or a method of your own choosing. UVW mapping will be easier with these new individual profile segments.
Matt Clementson
That just looks like a smoothing group error to me. Apply an Edit Mesh modifier (if it not an editable mesh already), select all the polys and apply an auto-smooth - should sort it out.
anvaraziz
its a smoothing group prob... u can remove or edit the existing smooth value to fix it..
LukeC
it looks like you might need to weld some points that might be duplicated in that area
Andrew Roane
It turns out that the problem arises sometimes when the 'smooth length' and 'smooth width' boxes are checked for a loft which has angular corners. The same applies to the sweep modifier when smooth section and smooth path are checked. Unchecking those boxes has resolved the issues so far. This obviously should not be checked if you need to have a smoothed final object. Thanks Everyone.
hooman_71
hi I'm in agree with philip , sometimes rebuild the mesh is the best & fastest way to get rid of such things in 3dsmax.
