hrvojezg00
I just got an offer to make a 3d visualisation of two apartment blocks and I didn`t set the price yet.what do you think how high should I go?
STRAT
depends on your abilities (are you a nube, or a well established 3d artist with a good reputation?) , the client's budget (speak to him), and what he wants out of you. we cant advise on any of this until we atleast see the job in hand. STRAT
you work isn't too shabby, but without knowing anything about the job and your brief it's impossible to advise further.
hrvojezg00
well I`m supposed to make a 3d vis. of a 3 building complex, each one with a few floors.I already set the price, 600euros.I could probably ask for more for this first timer, but...it`s ok! thnx
STRAT
600 euros seems maddly cheap to me, altho in croatia this might be a good deal. i dont know.
hrvojezg00
I do think it`s cheap but I didn`t know what price to offer since it was the first time I did it for money.what do you think the real price should be?
STRAT
couldn't tell you that as you still havent shown us the scope of works. also, a good price in croatia might be completely different to a good price in london or newyork for example. i personally charge my time out at around the 1500-2000 euro per week mark. manta
How many hours do you think it will take you to complete, add to that the client changing their mind 3 times...then divide that number into 600 and thats what you'll be making per hour, if that number works for you, then all is well... Tell me, how much do you pay for rent a month...
hrvojezg00
well I`m still a student so I don`t have any extra costs... I`ll think twice next time about the money thing
Andoy
Always a tough one this question.... Basically i have been going through the same problem as your self, and after reading many articles and forum views i have sort of come up with the following guidlines that i am trying to stick to. To model out the proposal and deliver 3 to 4 hi res renders .. US$ 2,000 - 3,000 depending upon work involved and references given from client. ( included in this would be a limited amount of changes that the client requests to the renders or model ) This price will be at least doubled if there is animation involved. If the client also wants the rights to the file and model then i would add another US$ 1,000 - 1,500 Depending on the type of render the client asks for this web page helps you understand the pricing a little better for various illustrations. http://www.khulsey.com/style.html Again the actual pricing is really up to you but never sell your self short.. 600 Euro for the job ( which is probably at least 2 weeks work if you think of a 40 hour week ) only puts your pricing into Euro 14,500 per year !!! not nearly enough really when you have taken into consideration the cost of software and your pc and your overheads. I hope you find this useful and i would be interested to hear others views on this if i am way off base here.
hrvojezg00
thnx to you all guys!the thing is that 3dvis is still not so appriciated here in Croatia but I`ll try to make some rules, if not for everyone, then for myself.
John Dollus
If you are a student and you have student software, you can't charge a penny for your work - it's part of the deal with cheap software. If you have a full license of all the software you use, you can see how much it costs you to produce a rendering (and it isn't cheap). Those are the expenses you incur when you start doing this for money and those costs get passed on to your clients.
