Boing
Hi guys, when i refernce an object shouldn't it's material change as i change materials on the original? dimensional changes are reflected in the references but not material changes. Boing
Any ideas? i know when i used to do it in Viz it would reflect the changes but it's not doing it in max, are there any settings i can change?
BrianKitts
i would assume no one has answered your post cause it sounds like a total fluke. To answer yes, your objects should update if they are referenced without any settings having to be changed. If dimensions are changing you know its taking the updates, one would expect the materals to follow suit. so like all of those who haven't posted I'm not sure there's an answer for your question other than... "huh..... that's strange" sorry - hope you find the solution.

Matt Clementson
If you're actually assigning a completely different material to the original then NO the child objects will not take the material change. Instances and references are geometry only, material assignment is different. This is actually a good thing as it means you can have lots of similar objects but with varying materials (eg for generating crowds of people or car parks full of cars).
