What do you use currently?

I use vectorworks for modelling and microstation bentley for 2D drafting and cinema

and Final Render for rendering... i have started to learn modelling in cinema

but think i might be going in the wrong direction....

if i am going to the trouble of learning a new modeller should i go to max

or given my current knowledge of microstation should i start learning that.

I really want to consider the future and where things are heading in archviz.

Perhaps it may be time to learn revit for future BIM's... any advice?

We use VectorWorks and Cinema 4D at the firm I work at, and it seem to be a combination that works. Microstation too is a capable modeller and renderer. I personally have been using 3d studio since its days on MS-DOS. Software is just a tool, it's been said many times on this and other CG forums, its not what you use, its how you use it. That said, AutoCAD and 3ds max seem to be the most prominent in the arch-viz industry, and as such would say that they are worth learning if you have the time and resource. As for BIM, it seems that more firms are investigating the possibilities, but it still isn't as prevalent as AutoCAD, so i'd say hold off a bit, learn the more 'trad' tools first.

heard this said before and ofcourse its true to a certain extent... a bad

work man blames his tools is another one.... i dont blame my tools at all

but i am smart enough to realise that sometimes the power saw is gona

save me time and offers more precision than a handsaw.

after jumping around from one application to another i now want to stick

with one solid power tool and master it but also grow with it and grow

with the rest of the industry.
