The loft and booleen tools work well for me (modify tab) if you look up some info, that will help. You can also use basic shapes to cut holes in the walls. The magnet looking tools(should be statndard tool bar at top of screen) will give you snap options. when in full view, go to the view name(top left screen) right click

The button all the way on the bottom right is 1/4 viewport toggle. The one up and one to the left from there is zoom extents, and those are the only ones from there I use, the rest of the nav functions are scroll mouse scrolling, clicking the center wheel and dragging, and center wheel click and drag with the Alt key down.

You use cinema also... right? do you model in max or a combination of both

and which do you perfer?

can you use max purely as a link to vray and do you add materials, lights

cameras ect in vray. if i could continue the workflow like this and gradually

pick up max on the way id be a happy man.

I'll model in whatever's convenient - Cinema, Max or Sketchup. They're all good, I guess it depends mostly on how you want to do your workflow and what you want to end up with. This summer I worked with a lot of Sketchup users and sometimes we needed a mental ray render, so it made the most sense to always model in Sketchup and figure out the most efficient ways to transfer to Max. I prefer that for the stuff that can be done well in Sketchup, and Cinema for modeling the stuff that can't be done well in Sketchup. Max is third on the list, but sometimes the obvious advanctages of modeling and rendering from the same program take priority.

Since I'm trying to work with Maxwell more now, and my office has Sketchup and Max but not Cinema, I might end up doing direct Sketchup-to-Maxwell, but then I might go back to mental ray if the new version ends up being as good as it looks in the preliminaries. (Still waiting for a real release schedule...) I don't really have that figured out yet - Vray is my favorite, but we don't have it and it's hard to justify the expense when I'm not a full-time 3D guy and we already have Max, mental ray, Brazil, Maxwell and Artlantis, so I'm waiting to see how good the new mental ray is and how much I can actually get Maxwell to do.
