House in vray.

Hi,

I've only recently moved into using vray for my renders, this is an early test render of a small job i've got recently, just looking for any comments.

I intend to have a car in the drive, a person or 2 and a bit more foreground stuff happening. But crit the building please, i'm thinking it all looks a bit flat, oh and i'm stuck with the design.

Looks great so far. You are right about the building looking flat, adding some VRay displacement to the bricks and the shingles will help with that. You may want to do a slight bump or displament on the driveway as well, it looks a little "too perfect". Maybe sharpen the glassiness of the glass, it looks like frosted glass currently.

It may be fun to see a VRay HDRI based sky in the scene instead of the all too familiar sky you have in there as well. The entourage looks pretty flat too, if you don't have any 3D based entourage, you may want to play around with the pieces you insert by adding darker/lighter areas in photoshop.

Ok have made some changes.

Used the easynat plugin, with a couple of the free included trees, not sure how well the one on the left fits in with its surroundings though..

Any further comments would be welcome, though i have really spent my fee in time here, so things to bear in mind for next time i guess.

Hi David.

If you have a digital Camera go out a nd take a photo of a car, make sure the lighting is similair to that of your render.

cut the car out in PS then stick that into your image.

do the same for the trees, grass and shrubs. you should replace the sky with a photo taken on the same day as teh car shoot...

you will notice a difference in your image when you mix your render with photographs....

that is of course if you intend blending CG with real images.

nice model by the way.

Looking good! A few more comments - your tree is floating, it'd be great see a concrete stoop at the door and a change of material (ballast) around the perimeter of the house. I like the changes to the materials and the addition of the forground shadow. The car is a pretty dominant feature of the rendering now, as they often do in these cases. You may want to try having the garage door open with the car inside, or maybe slightly pulled out like its leaving.

House is looking great now, but the rest of the scene needs working on.

As entioned before lose the tree and the car, or change the colour of the car and make it less dominant. The house should be the focal point with everything else complimenting it.

Photoshop a real tree in as the one you have looks a little like a toy tree. Brighten up the driveway to the same lightness as the house, and add differences in light dark areas. Maybe a shadow from a tree out of shot falling across the drive to add detail to a flat area.

Also add a border to the grass. If you look at any grass there is pretty much always a contrasting brick or stone boundary\border. If not make the grass blades on the edge of the grass in photoshop with the grass brush.

Like your progress so far though, keep it up.
