Another one for the Intel Mac users (and other Radeon owners)

Did you do exactly what was in the instructions, including my changes, exactly, including version number of the drivers I listed? I you did, I'm not sure what to tell you, it seems to have failed. If you open Properties for the ATI display adapter, is it listed as a Radeon or a FireGL? Did you try monitoring the GPU clock speed in ATI Tray Tools? (I actually keep mine low, at 300/300, for battery reasons and never take it up to full speed for heat reasons.) Did you use Rivatuner to confirm the PCI ID of your Radeon?

 

Unfortunately this is not a newbie-compliant operation, I'd say it's for the 1337 h4x0r crowd (or at least the knowledgeable enthusiasts), so I'd suggest not doing it and going back to the Apple drivers unless you really have a need for workstation OpenGL. Sorry for being blunt, but the instructions were already simplified.

Here was my method:

 

1.Downloaded and extractred fireGL driver 8.263- 34699

2.Copied your patchscript. Pasted /replaced your patchscript into: RivaTuner v2.0 RC 16.2\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\...Softfiregl W2K

3. In extracted firegl drivers folder found the CX_34699inf and made the line changes:

4.Ran the revised patchscript and selected "force radeon mobility FireGL v5200

5. Did the "have disk" option.....selected the Macbook Pro FireGL V5200....

6. I get an error that says the hardware is not windows and cannot install.....
