HomeBrewTJ
This house was designed in Vertex and rendered in Max with vray. I think that it's almost finished. I plan on fixing the curb/street materials, adding some leaves on the ground, fixing the front door, etc. Any advice, direction, or c&c is greatly appreciated! jophus14
Nice work. I would lighten the bush or small tree that is against the house in the shaded area to the left of the door. Great curb dirt look, how did you accomplish the look?
HomeBrewTJ
kippu- I noticed that too- probably just touch it up in photoshop when I'm closer to being finished. Joseph- That is actually supposed to be a vine on that wall. If I lighten it up it might make that a little more evident. The curb in the foreground is just a grey vray mat with a Speckle map in the bump slot. I think it's the S-shape of the curb itself that is giving it that look. I was actually going to change it- maybe I'll just add some control joints and lighten it up a bit to match the sidewalk. Thanks! Kenny
malts
good work! How did you made this tree (in front right)?
HomeBrewTJ
The tree and the bushes around the house are from Evermotion's ArchModels, and the others are just mapped planes.
V_Type
Nobody walking or children playing on the grass ??? Just a little bit of life to show your house doesn't seat in a desert land.

martin walker
Looks good, a few minor comments though no bump / displacment on the brick work makes the walls look a litte flat in reality there would be leading on the roof for drainage. Trees look really nice though
HomeBrewTJ
Martin- there is bump on the walls. I think it's just that on this render I used very low settings, so it may not be quite evident. On some tests I did at higher settings, it looks a little better. Good call. I need to add some more gutters and other small details. I've never had any luck with putting people in scenes, so I just leave them out. More times than not they tend to attract the focus too much and detract from the house. Maybe I'll play around some more with that. This is really only the second serious exterior I've done, so thanks for all the input so far!
HomeBrewTJ
Here is part of a higher setting render: Thanks for the input.
jophus14
Your cedar shingles are unbelievable. Are they modeled or a texture w/ displacement?
HomeBrewTJ
It is just a texture/bump and is a free sample from Marlin Studios. SEAMLESS TEXTURES 10 - ROOFTOP MATERIALS http://www.marlinstudios.com/samples/sampst10.htm I had to photoshop some of the discoloration out to get rid of the tiling effect, though. I need to redo the mat on the ridge caps, I forgot to do that.
3DIFX
Nice job Kenney. I like the way the light plays though your windows. Really nice grass too! Watch out for the grass sneaking up under your porch where it meets the sidewalk. I've had that modeling problem before as well. To remedy that I just always extend the sidewalk underneath the porch a little bit. Otherwise really nice work especially for one of your first attempts. Keep it up! HomeBrewTJ
I was hoping no one would notice that Valarie, the archifx site is great- I really like the interactivity involved. Kenny
