"text" taking to long to load up.

I have laid out a track football field. The file size is pretty small, but it takes a while to load up. I have a lot of 'text' on the field and track. When I try to edit the text, it takes awhile to alter the text.

 

I thought that I could maybe remove the 'text' properties so that it would register as a geometry. I exported the text as a .3ds. I imported it back into the max model and sure enough, it loads faster. I can't edit the text anymore, but I do not need to now because I had already laid it all out previously.

 

The problem now is that the file size jumped from under 1 meg to 30 megs!

 

Is there a better way to handle this text problem? Have any of you run into this kind of situation before?

while editing text you can turn off the "update" function so it doesn't refresh the screen as you type. that will help you a bit. As for converting the geometry, I would just take the max built text right click on it and convert it to an editable mesh (I'm assuming you used the text tool than extruded the text object). Then if you want you can join all your meshes together into one object.

 

Never tested it for file size, but I have a feeling it should work better for ya.

Thanks! I've been in working in max for years and I still learn something new.

Your tip helped wonderfully. The files size still got big, but it has ben reduced to 19 megs vs. 30 megs.

 

I did use the text text command and then extruded previosuly. I right clicked on the text and changed it to an editable mesh as you instructed. The file opens a lot faster now.

 

I really appreciate the advice!
