STRAT
http://www.maxon.net/pages/dyn_files/dyn_htx/htx/1824/01824_01825.html read all about it people. looks great for all characture animators out there, but hardly anything for archi visualisers unfortunately. Ernest Burden III
I've been holding off on deciding to switch applications to see if Maxon would revamp AR, but it appears that they have not. fr2 is not ready for primetime yet and the vray integration is on track but not ready yet. Which leaves me installing the MAX8 30 day version. Time to start learning something else. Pity, the rest of C4D is amazingly good.

AJLynn
The graphic design of the interface in the screenshot with the announcement - it's been redesigned, looks like a cross between Modo and Blender. Nothing to do with functionality, though I'm intrigued by the line about using the latest features of OpenGL cards - does that mean hardware rendered viewports in almost-real-time like Alias Studio? That would be a nice feature.
Ernest Burden III
I'm intrigued by the line about using the latest features of OpenGL cards Hey, maybe they've figured out how to get the display interactive speed of Lightscape. Hardware rendered viwports with better T&L would be nice. While rendered output is the food-on-the-table bottomline, viewport interactivity is probably the biggest day-to-day issue. edub
Great news about v10, but for arch viz, I guess I'm not in a hurry to upgrade, except for the possible improvement with my ATI X1900 card in Mac Pro? I noticed on Maxon's website that there is an AR v2.6... is this new too, or did I just miss the boat on that one?? What are the features of AR2.6 over 2.5? Ernest Burden III
What are the features of AR2.6 over 2.5? Having the Pyrocluster module folded in The OpenGL speedups seem to revolve around the new Pixelshader feature built in hardware of fairly recent cards. I had to go buy a new nvidia card last year so my kids could play their new LEGO Star Wars game. It certainly isn't in my rather expensive Quadro card. I don't know how much better C4D would be on my existing display hardware. New drivers are scary, too. Old drivers GOOD. Stable GOOD. With the Pixelshader you will get realtime shadows, which would be pretty damned nice. That's what I love most about SketchUp. Also seeing environments, maybe some reflections. The LEGO game has that, why not Cinema.
4DM
Agree with STRAT and EBlll that this new R10 release is a major non-event for Archviz. Like Ernest and others I have been hoping for news on the VRay bridge, so any improvement in AR would have probably just been a fill-in till then, (though that may have kept some of us happy for now?). For a split second I had a thought that the "beautiful thing" that Srek over on cgtalk this morning was heralding was the anticipated announcement of C4D/VRay plug-in integration, but I suppose Xmas isn't for another few months, right? The SniperPro-style interactive render sounds pretty good, but not neccesarily worth the £ to upgrade. The Layers in OM sound OK too, but since I belatedly discovered the brilliant "Solo" plug-in, I can't see why would I need them? Also, the idea of paying extra to upgrade AR just to run with R10, when all it offers is Pyrocluster (yeah, really useful for us!) sticks in the craw too. I am chomping at the bit to try out VRay, but don't have the stomach or budget to migrate to Max/Viz, VRay, Windows and the requisite Intel MacPro all in one go. C'mon, Renato, can we have our VRay bridge soon...pretty pleeeeze? Cheers, D.

STRAT
Having the Pyrocluster module folded in and who actually uses that?
Ernest Burden III
and who actually uses that? I never have, though it looks like it could be fun. Definately the next time a client wants me to show his building exploding and burning, I'll learn it for sure! In truth, I think it can be used for good clouds, though I'm happy with the SKY functions for that.
