AJLynn
Make sure to eat some lobsters in Maine and some clam showder at Legal Seafood in Boston. If you golf, you'll find some good and affordable courses near Chatham that you can still play in October. (To sound like a local, pronounce it "Chaddam".) You'll be in VT in foliage-watching season, not yet ski season, so you can drive around and look at trees which Boston people like to do, or hike, and the Adirondacks are beautiful this time of year. Go to the museums in Boston - the MFA and Gardner (they're near each other). Unfortunately you won't be in town for any major sports, the Pats have a bye week the 15th and the BC/Buffalo game is the 28th (but we'll kick their ass by too much to make it very exciting). ShaunDon
Hey Trevor! As a resident of Portsmouth, let me be the first to (if prematurely) welcome you to the Live Free or Die state! While you're passing through, remember you can buy all your booze for cheap at any of our fine New Hampshire State Liquor stores -- you'll find marked exit ramps going both north and southbound on I-95 as you pass through Hampton. How's that for oddly convenient? Please don't drink and drive. ;-) Some ideas for Portsmouth: Definitely check out the Portsmouth Brewery for all the best local Smuttynose brews -- I highly recommend the Old Brown Dog ale on tap. That's at 56 Market St. in the downtown. The food is good too. The Isles of Shoals Steamship Company operates several cruises, including a fall foliage trip up the Piscataqua River, out of the port. I've always meant to take a trip on the Thomas Laighton, but have never gotten around to it. You'll just miss the end of the Portsmouth Harbour Trail guided tours, but for a bit of history stop by the Strawbery Banke Museum. Did you know Portsmouth used to be the capital on New Hampshire, and in 1700 was one of the 20 most populated settlements in the U.S.? It hasn't grown since though... And while I'm sure you're looking to avoid thinking about work, my firm's office is in the center of town (Market Square) and I'd be more than happy to show you our studio. We're rather small, but a fun bunch of people who work on many projects locally and throughout the States. Drop me a PM if you're interested and I can give you my mobile number. I'll let the Bostonians chime in on recomendations for beantown. I hope you have a great time -- the weather has been fantastic so far this October, you couldn't have picked a better time to see the northeast. And as a spoiler, check out my photos of Portsmouth -- it's a beautiful little city. Safe travels! Shaun
