manta
Can you ellaborate on your situation, are you a one man studio, or a student, do you need just a render node or a workstation, are you capable of building it yourself, or is it for the company you work for therefore it needs to be a Dell or some other company... I build my own from parts I get from newegg.com, that way I can choose my own upgrade path, if I were going to build one now I would build a Core2 duo, and make sure my system was going to be compatible with the quad cores soon to come out, so I could easily just drop one of those in when the price is right, but let us know what you need it for ect...and you'll probably get more answers... Justin Hunt
I have just bought a Core2 Duo, 2 Gig Ram for $1500 throught Altech.com.au The prices listed there are Retail, but I was able to get it wholesale prices. My machine is the "Ariel Core 2" with a few parts changed. I should be getting it today JHV Just ran some bench mark tests and simply put , there will be very little that will wipe the smile off my face :D JHV
UTI
Hi again and thanx for feedback. i need a workstation for myself and i can build it but i was wondering which is better and cheaper ,,,the one that i build or the dell or hp??
AJLynn
If you build it yourself, you'll have the advantage that if you get good components (faster RAM than you need, a good enthusiast motherboard, a good heatsink/fan, good power supply and any Core2 Duo) you can overclock it and get much more speed than a Dell or HP (which are generally not tweakable) with the same CPU. For example, I've got a Core2 Duo E6400 with PC-6400 RAM and an MSI 975X motherboard, and it's running at 2840MHz - somewhat faster than the E6700, which costs $300 US more. Justin Hunt
Tend to agree, build it yourself. You wont be paying the premium of Dell or HP but you also wont be getting the support they deliver. Overrated in most cases. With Altech you can buy an extended warrentee if you are conserned about that. Even wthout overclocking the core2 duos rock. AJLynn
There's already a lot on that in this board, do a search for overclock.
