mskin
I like using the mental rayrenderer. i feel like i have pretty good control over it in terms of getting my materials, light levels etc to work the way i want them too. i have noticed though, that in order to get crisp lines i need to use the scan line renderer or completely whack up the sample per pixels in MR. The problom with that is my render time leaps through the roof. is there somehing im missing? - thanks.
John Dollus
which AA filter are you using and at what settings? Do you know that you can increase the AA quality greatly without touching the samples per pixel?
mskin
i dont know what filter im using... where do you find this in mental ray settings?
mahorela
haven't used mental ray for a while but the AA settings are in the main MR menu and I typically use Mitchell with settings of 3 and 3 instead of 4 and 4. This usually sharpens things up nicely.
mskin
I cant find any antialiasing settings anywhere in the MR render rollout options.
John Dollus
The width-Height value increases the quality and time. The higher the value, the higher the quality. I usually use Mitchell at 4.0 to start with and sometimes need to increase it to 5 if there are a lot of thin elements in the image. I might use Gauss for a soft landscape scene but wouldn't use it for architectural work. If you use the online help, a search for 'mental aliasing' will give you a complete description of this section
