Redigitizing video

We have some old animations done awhile back (mpeg 1) movies that look bit grainy/pixelated - they are not that bad, but when displayed on a big LCD tv, it just looks different than the others. My bosses really want to use these movies in a trade show.

I have heard of a technique - redigitizing, where you export your movie out to an anolog source then recapture it back to digital smoothing all the bumps and grains.

Has anyone tried this or can direct me what kind of hardware I need. I guess I generally would need a video capture card/hardware and vcr. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance
