Andrew1
ehh what's up all, I am having problem with proxies, I got an image that is textured and consists of 4 separate objects, I got it grouped together as one object, now I export to vrmesh, got the mesh saved, now I open proxy window load the image, render the image, it appears as one solid color... My material preset is gone ?? Any ideas ?? thanks. AnDrew
Parker1
You have to use Multi-Sub object materials with Proxies (with material I.D's). Once you place the proxies you have to drag the Multi-Sub material from a MatLib into a sample slot and re-assign it to the proxy. It will now render perfectly. Andrew1
Thanks Parker, Does the proxy have to be 1 solid mesh ?? or can it consist of several mesh objects ? I got 4 objects just grouped so I dont need subobject material as each of those objects have assigns just 1 diffuse. It says in vray forum that once proxy is created and saved it will remain with the same material, size and all the settings, why would I wanna load a proxy and then texture it when it should hold the material type at creation process ?? thanks,
Jeff Mottle
Hi Andrew, please update your profile with your real name. As a fellow Canadian I can appreciate the humour of your name, but your real name is a requirement on our forums. Thanks! Cheers, Jeff
Parker1
why would I wanna load a proxy and then texture it when it should hold the material type at creation process?? The proxy will not hold the material assignments, just the material ID #'s. So you must re-assign the multi-sub material to it in the scene for it to work correctly. I do not know why it does this...it just does.
Nic H
yep its annoying but the proxy cant save the tex path names so you need to re-apply mats. Iv made a max file with all my textured plant proxies in it that i just merge into different scenes. Takes a hour to set up but once its done you wont need to do it again.
