Importing DEM files into VIZ

Anybody out there have experience importing DEM file from USGS site. I have it working great importing the different quads that I need to use; the problem I'm running into is the file is huge and difficult to navigate. Does anyone know of a way to simplify the Terrain once it into VIZ? It lists it as a editable mesh, but you don't see any geometry unless you’re in shaded mode.

You may wanna try GroundWiz to optimize terrain when importing it into VIZ. Here is a tutorial about it. http://www.gugila.com/gw_tutorial4.html

The tutorial explains the whole process on getting data from the USGS site to your VIZ, including optimizing the final terrain mesh.

 

Lite version of GroundWiz is free and will let you do the whole process. Hope this helps.
