martin walker
been using photoshop for donkeys years, but Ive never figured this out... is there a way to "cut" (NOT copy) a selection and paste it in exactly the same place...it always seems to place it in some random position
Bwana Kahawa
I think it centres it on your visible portion of the canvas, rather than it being random. To get stuff in the right place, I usually duplicate the layer and delete everything unnecessary. Essentially does the same thing, and if you have the selection saved as an Alpha channel, it takes no time at all. Hope that helps.
martin walker
Thanks Derek, yeah, thats what Ive been doing....was just wondering if there was a magic key I needed to press while pasting
scarp8
I guess it depends on what photoshop you have been using. I like CS1 over CS2, but I'm currently working with CS2... anyway... make your selection and then press "ctrl-shift-J". That will cut your selection and paste it in a new layer in the same position.
