You can use plugin by Gugila - GroundViz. But it too slow to generate huge amounts of proxies. www-gugila-com

No problems here, but if you want real speed you just switch of collision detection and it places millions of instances in seconds. VRayScatter may be better for multimillion proxies in huge area covering projects, but if you want precise control over placement I think GroundWiz is far more advanced !! It only could use some better memory managment at rendertime so it can render those million instances within ONE planter !!!

memory management and rendertime geometry generation (on demand) is the main difference between this products. VRayScatter can generate 100k objects in near realtime. It can generate 1.000.000 of trees in 10 seconds.

It absolutely boggles my mind that no one has tried to replicate Vue's ecosystem feature. It's like a scatter, proxy, and place-objects-on-surface script all in one. Genius feature...yet it seems all scripts do either the scatter, or dropping objects onto a surface...never both.

Well that sounds really great because this is what Groundwiz can NOT. Since you work with iCube I hope you can answer these questions. I have seen the demo video and some things are unclear.

 

- Since the proxy is loaded from disk in the plugin how do you assign materials ?

- Does the procedural material only randomly assign the 6 colors ?

- Will you be able to assign random materials in the future ?

- Will you be able to pick multiple proxies to scatter around on the same surface without loading the plugin each time for each proxy ? If not, how will the next instance of the plugin distribute the next proxy ? In other words will they get new coordinates so they don't overlap with the previous instance of VRayScatter ?

- Will there be a package price if you are a single user with a renderfarm ?

- Are the instances subobjects in the plugin so you can accurately place some of them if needed ?

A. Materials asssined to VRayProxies as usual.

 

Q. Does the procedural material only randomly assign the 6 colors ?

A. For now You can use 6 colors to produce infinite count of random color between them.

 

Q. Will you be able to assign random materials in the future ?

A. You can assign random materials by mixing random materials by VRayScatterTexture.

 

Q. Will you be able to pick multiple proxies to scatter around on the same surface without loading the plugin each time for each proxy ? If not, how will the next instance of the plugin distribute the next proxy ? In other words will they get new coordinates so they don't overlap with the previous instance of VRayScatter ?

A. For now the one VRayScatter object can use only one VRayProxy. There is a "seed" parameter to randomize different proxies.

 

Q. Will there be a package price if you are a single user with a renderfarm ?

A. We'll going to do discount system with multiply licenses.

 

Q. Are the instances subobjects in the plugin so you can accurately place some of them if needed ?

A. For now this feature is not implemented yet.

download neil belvins scriptd. named Soulburn scripts.

You can scatter vray proxies, drop them onto surface, randomize rotation scale translation. i use this for all big arrays (grass, forests...)

I 'm quite happy whith results.
