rinasmruti
Hi...I was experimenting a lot with linear workflow and trying to play around with the settings to get the right look for an interior scene in 3dsmax. I had two questions: 1. When I render using VFB, the image that I see in the VFB is different than the saved image I open in Photoshop. So the main issue is if I want to adjust the diffuse colors of the different objects in my scene, I want to be able to see the final result in MAX VFB itself. Does anyone know anything about this? 2. If I download the latest VRay Version, can I switch back to use the older version at anytime, coz I wanted to download the latest Vray version just to experiment with the new settings in it. Thanks!!!
BrianKitts
1. Are you applying a gamma correction to your frame buffer using the curve editor? or using the sRGB adjustment in the vray frame buffer if you are updated to 1.5 RC2 or RC3? If you aren't that is why your image is different from photoshop. To get this adjustment in the standard max buffer you need to enter 2.2 into your output Gamma in your max preferences under GAMMA & LUT. 2. Yes you can uninstall the newer versions. The installs actually put vray into your control panel menu for uninstalling programs like a standard application. But honestly, I can't image a reason to go backwards. I noticed no difference in working with scenes using the new releases as opposed to the old. When I want to use the physical camera and physical sky, and new features, I do..... but it still functions as well if not better setting scenes up like I always have in previous versions. rinasmruti
I am not applying any gamma correction using curve editor. I have also changed the output gamma to 2.2 in my Max Preferences. By standard max buffer, do you mean I dont have to use built in frame buffer to render out the image?
BrianKitts
yes you can render to either the built buffer and set the output gamma to 2.2. or you can turn off the standard max buffer and render to vray frame buffer only. (note: in vray 1.5 it automatically turns off the built in buffer when you enable vray's buffer.... thinking of upgrading??? :-) ) if you do use the vray buffer (which is better cause you can isolate and see all your g-buffer channels among other things) I have attached an image showing how to apply the gamma correction with the curve editor.
