nzjimmy2001
hi guys i have modelled a car and want to render it. when i use mxm materials the maxwell render window just won't appear at all. the usual first couple of windows pop up and then nothing else happens. the car renders fine using regular 1.0 materials. whats the story? AJLynn
Any error messages? Do the MXMs contain references to bitmap files that aren't in the expected locations? Are you using 1.0 or 1.1? What app are you launching the render from? Does the MXS file open in Maxwell Studio? Did you find any similar complaints in Nextlimit's Maxwell forum? Devin Johnston
You shouldn’t use 1.0 materials with 1.1 I believe they changed something between the two versions that doesn’t allow for the materials to be interchanged.
AJLynn
Yeah, I love how they keep doing that - you upgrade your version by 0.1 and your MXS files don't load, your scenes don't work, the only material type the Max plugin has now is MXM file, the Cinema plugin has the other material types but they don't work... was it really necessary to make that many changes and would it really be that hard to put in some backwards compatibility? Devin Johnston
I agree it's extremely aggravating especially if you have a lot of materials that work well.
nzjimmy2001
using 3dsmax. maxwell version 1.1. mxs file doesn't open in maxwell studio. no error message. also no bitmaps. i haven't seen similar complaints on maxwell website.
AJLynn
Did you install the latest Max plugin? 1.0 plugin scenes aren't supposed to be compatible with 1.1. Are all your paths set correctly? And supposed you make something basic, export a file that MXST can import like 3DS or FBX, can you import and render it?
nzjimmy2001
honestly i can't think what could be wrong. i did get the body to render by itself once... then the next time i tried again with the same file... it wouldn't render. i have no trouble rendering anything else. i thought it was too high a poly count. i am using 1.1 plugin for max. AJLynn
You could zip it, upload it to rapidshare.de and PM or post the link.
AJLynn
I tried your scene in Max. If you check the info window box in the Maxwell settings, you'll see a lot of this error: Error: Invalid U value object.setTriangleUVW I added UVW mapping to all objects, and it eliminated that error, but I still got this incredibly non-useful set of information: Materials info: Total Materials: 2 Bitmap info: Loaded Maps: 0 (0 missing) DefineSceneMaterials Ok Create Geometry Ok Error: Errors detected in scene creation phase. MXS will not be created. writeMXS Error: MXS Write Error! (null) I don't know what's causing that. I'd suggest asking on the Max section of the maxwellrender.com forums. Devin Johnston
what happens when you change the location that Maxwell is saving the MXS file?
nzjimmy2001
thanks for your time and help with this error. i looked and saw the same error posted at the maxwell site but the person doesn't get a helpful answer there yet. guess i'll have to wait or do some more searching on the net. AJLynn
I already tried that, and I'm admin on that PC and it's got plenty of space so it's not a file writing issue.
