sdds
hey all, what do you think of my attempt at fakeosity, just a small image but feedback would be great.
NOOXY
not bad man.. some light burns in some areas but overall a very nice attempt..if this is the fake GI, i'll be afraid to see the real GI:D
sdds
Thanks, yea this is a rig with ambient only & diffuse lights with AO applied. Renders fast because clients change their minds to much for real GI. I am trying to improve so this technique can be used to produce photo like finish, not there yet though. sdds
Simple m8, First I think get all your textures done and dusted because good colour is very important to the realism of a render. Depends how long you have, the second image posted was created in 3 days with last minute changes as well so time was very limited. After modelling is complete, I think to myself where light is coming from in this scene. So say you have a room in direct sunlight, put that in and see were the light hits. Now you have light coming from the sky so put in a soft blue ambient only omni in the centre of your room, this will give a blue tinge to the image. Placing some area diffuse lights in windows with soft shadows will help add some of the softness you get from gi. Now you need to account for the bouncing of light off walls, objects etc. put omnis around to simulate this. Lastly render out an ambient occlusion pass for the soft shadows, now begin post work in your graphic app of choice. Post work in my opinion is very important, when renders are done you will often need to tweak colour, contrast etc. I see to many people think that they need to do all the work inside a 3d app YOU DON'T. Just remember to use every trick you can to get the desired effect as fast and as easily as you can, no need to be a purist. here are some steps in creating a simple fakeosity, notice how much of a difference post work makes.
