Munz
I have picked up a few 3d people, some free, some from turbosquid, etc. they all seem to have been created with the generic units in max. I do all my work in architectural unites, feet/inches. So when I merge these people into my scene the rigging is all messed up. Does anyone know how to merge these people files into my scene while maintaining the functionality of the rig. I am very new to using 3d characters in my projects so any help is appreciated. thanks munz
The_architect06
i don't think your issue have anything to do with scale units ,maybe the models were made on a different version, or if the model is animated some missing files may mess up the rig..my suggestion is to group the character in one single object then merge it ,or you can convert it to 3ds then import.. hope that helps
scarp8
I know exactly what you are talking about. I've pounded my head against the wall many times dealing with this. Try applying a "xform" modifier on your mesh and then scale it to the correct height. Most of the time (not always) it works like a charm. -Dave http://www.Got3d.com
gfa2
I'm having the same problem and was just about to start a thread like this. Dave, I'll try your suggestion, but if anyone else has any ideas...I'd love to hear them. Working with these rigged characters can be pretty intense...I didn't anticipate scaling them to be an issue. Munz
I tried the xform on one of my models and it seems to have worked. I have no idea with xform even is, but it seems to help... munz
thatch
Open your character file and when you get the units mismatch screen asking what you want to do select adopt files units, then go to customize>units setup and select the units you want to convert to. Select the character rig (root) and go to the motion tab>biped and select figure mode, then in the structure dropdown enter the new height, click off figure mode then save the file. When you merge it into your scene it should come in at the correct height set to your units. Hope that helps

ant_march
Looking forward to trying your advice out. .!!! Bipeds and linked messes have caused me probs before when I was experimenting with motion captured figures to use in animations. Again the different units between archtectural 3D scenes and the units the characters arrived in caused me a headache, an e-mail to AXYZ asking for advice was pointless as they never replied. Cheers Thatch, I'm sure we'll try it out in the coming months if we purchase some of the characters. http://www.antmarch3d.co.uk
