Brian Smith
I'm curious as to who's getting a playstation 3 and who's getting the Wii. Personally, I like the Wii and with the way things have gone with Sony, I wouldn't be surprised if the playstation gets recalled.
brianzajac
Also, it all depends on how you look at it: Investor: PS3 In one word: shortages. Just ask your local retailer & ask them how many PS3's they'll be getting in. If they're lucky, they'll get up to 5 for the entire christmas season! So, if you're luckier than a lotto winner, snag it and you'll make some great $$$ on Ebay this year. Buyer: Wii As Brian S. pointed out, development on the PS3 has been...let's say beyond horrible. They can't get the cell chip diodes to work correctly & have spread themselves too thin on promises they couldn't keep. Not to mention that the pricing model (specs at http://www.gamespot.com/features/6125429/index.html?tag=topslot;action;3) is very expensive and they are losing money on each sale of the PS3. As for the Wii, we'll they're sitting pretty. Their business model was to focus on something the industry needed - getting everyone involved without focusing on technologies that 'break the bank'. So, working on things like a new controller system does just that. Now, 'anyone' (hence the Wii name) can pick up a game, play it, & leave it whenever they want - just like watching TV. On top of that, Nintendo makes a profit everytime they sell a system. And, it's the cheapest system around! So, while Sony is scrambling to get their PS3 to work, Nintendo is making profits. Nintendo did this before (anyone remember Nintendo beating out Atari) and they'll do it again.
Ricardo Eloy
I'm definetly going to get a Wii... Mostly because I'm the kind of guy who gets bored real quick with games like Half-Life, that focus on jaw-dropping graphics and very repetitive gameplay. I'd love to play that tennis game they showed at the last E3... It really seems good, simple clean fun.
Brian Cassil
Video games were such a huge part of my childhood but I haven't owned a console game since I was a teenager. I've been really into a few PC games and I never saw much allure to console games lately but now my kids are getting to the age where they really want one. This Christmas will probably be the time I finally jump on board with it and if I do I need to like it as well. I'll have to try the Wii controllers to see about that one. They look really weird but who knows, maybe it's as great as they say it is. It just seems really strange. I have a hard time believing that developers are too happy about the strange controller. I was really hoping the PS3 would pan out but maybe not.
Sawyer
I have thought about the wii. I have the xbox360 and I realised that I think video games are really boring. Kong was fun it had flaws but I haven't found anything else I have liked. As Rick said the repetition is pretty horrible. I want to like games I do but they just don't make any good ones. arqjuan
I´m for Wii too, I grow up playing Nintendo not other system, I have a PS1 too but... I don´t like it, they are not so fun like Nintendo (which is its philosophy). I´m going to Houston for vacation to visit a friend of mine and of course be there in the launch day and buy my Wii :D and obviously Zelda Cheers JC
Ray
Tennis--now there's a game that's not repetitive! You hit the ball over the net, and someone hits it back to you. Then you . . . uh, hmmmm, hit the ball back over the net!
Ricardo Eloy
The fun there is not in repetition, but in the dynamic created between you, the weird controller and the other person playing with you. Every sport has its dose of repetition, of course, but that's the beauty of it: simple rules and the rest is up to you. What I don't like is spending 10 hours shooting zombies or whatever just to get to see an animation in the end. Games are suposed to entertain, not make you go crazy because you can't kill boss #38. AJLynn
If I were to get one, it would be a Wii - that controller is just cool, Nintendo is still making great games and PS3 costs more than my roommate's car.

IC
Back in the day I was a Nintendo man until a friend got the first PS. I converted to Sony and I'm excited about (and trying to get my two daughters interested in) the PS3. The difference was the target audience. Nintendo's games are traditionally more childish and twee than the other guys but that's not to say it won't change this time-they're not stupid. I guess you didn't get very far in Half-Life 2, because there's more to it that shooting zombies and an animation at the end. But, whatever. Koper
Hell, before this thread I have never even heard of the wii, as we South Africans don't get the good news till it's old news. Bought the xbox360 last year and have been playing tiger woods 06 ever since, nothing else but am looking at Top spin 2. But im curios about the new techn. of the ps3 and the performance! Games such as F1 should really benefit from this, and then just think how big GTA will become because of blue ray technology. And then, as we are now able to work in 64bit, just think of the possibilities of creating a whole development, put it in a game engine and run it interactively on a ps3
AJLynn
Is there going to be a public dev kit for PS3? Now that would be interesting. I've got a PS2 (FF12 is wicked awesome) and a DS (it's a handheld! that plays Super Mario 64! and looks like an iPod!) and the DS golf game is hours and hours of addictive fun. Koper
Is there going to be a public dev kit for PS3? Now that would be interesting. If there is not, then I think we as Arch Viz community should ask sony very nicely. Maybe we can also ask a gaming developer such as ubisoft to develop a gui game dev kit so we can easily create an interactive vizualization to be runned on the ps3. just one crazy idea i have
