Koper
Randy, I'm gonna start a new thread so that we can discuss this concept, and others might then also join in. I'll call it - 'Shooting your client'

Brian Cassil
I'm resurrecting this old thread because I didn't end up getting a game console last year but I will be getting one this year. Here are the factors: - I would personally rather have a PS3 (for the blue ray capability and 1080P gaming) - I think my kids would prbably get a little more enjoyment out of a Wii, and since this is for their christmas, that obviously takes precident. - If I could find a Wii in a store for the retail price it would be a slam dunk decision but I can't. So in considering this I have to consider them as costing the same. - I have already purchased a Wii and Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii on ebay for... gulp... $700:eek: including shipping. I could probably resell it on ebay for close to that if I want to back out though. I guess it comes down to this: If cost was not a factor would you get a Wii or a Playstation? brianzajac
Well, it's been a year later and my decision still stays the same: the Nintendo Wii. Here's an update to why: - Games are more interactive and require exercise (a much needed things in our field) - If you have friends (I know some of us are hermits, but still...), the Wii is easier to use for all-around audiences. My girlfriend came from Brazil and had never played a video game in her life. Well, within 10 minutes we were having a fierce Wii tennis match. - If you have kids, it's a MUST. Not only does everyone get exercise, but the co-op interactivity in games like Super Mario Galaxy really lets you bond with them (instead of competing with them). Don't get me wrong...the PS3 has some cool interactive games. It's just that the Wii has more kid-friendly co-op games. - For the real 'tech-heads' out there, you can use your Wii Remotes to interact with your computer (it uses the mouse drivers). You can also do crazy stuff with , and because of it's bluetooth capabilities and accelerometer technology.
Brian Cassil
Thanks for the input. So are you saying that even if I have to pay what I paid for it (I can't even bring myself to typing the price again) you would still go with the Wii? Ricardo Eloy
I bought my Wii 2 months ago (yes, it was damn hard to find and I ended up paying 300 bucks in some store in Miami). As I said before, not a gamer myself, but I really enjoy the thing. Playing tennis, golf, baseball is just awesome. You'll find yourself playing it for like hours (and with a great deal of pain in your arm), and laughing. I know I do. I also bought Metroid Prime, which is a really nice shooter with really smooth intuitive controls. Not my favourite, but it's nice to play. Other things count to make the Wii a good choice: - you can browse the internet using your TV (and writing an e-mail using the wiimote is not as painful as it seems) - you can listen to music stored in a SD card - you can view photos stored in a SD card and even intereact with them (gee, it even makes sort of a video clip with them, using your favourite bg music) - Big N's games are simply awesome. Check out Mario Galaxy and Metroid's reviews and you'll see what I mean. So, if you ask me if I'd exchange it for a PS3, my answer is no. Also, you can always upgrade your PC's video card in order to play the most demanding games. Brian Zajac: your girl's from Brasil? Where is she from? I continue to have priceless memories because of the Wii. I hope you will get the same satisfaction as I have...

Brian Cassil
OK, my minds made up. I'm keeping the Wii. Hopefully my kids and I will have so much fun with it that I'll forget that I paid double retail price for it. You guys probably don't realize how painfull that is for me. I consider myself an ultra bargain shopper and this just goes against all I believe.

IC
I spent hours last weekend looking for a pink DS for my daughter. All the shops said "as soon as we get them they go." I resorted to phoning around and got one just as panic was setting in. I'm sure the whole Christmas fun thing will make you forget the extra money. Then you'll find hundreds of them bundled with free stuff in the January sales.

Ricardo Eloy
She's from Mogi Guacu. We're hoping to visit her family in 2008. It would be my first visit. Have you been there? Cool. Mogi is kindda in the country side, small town. Been there like a dozen years ago (probably even more). If you come to Brasil, make sure you come to São Paulo (the city) too. Some of the best restaurants in the world, museums... lots of stuff to do. Brian Cassil: don't worry about post-christmas sales... Nintendo is not keeping up with the demand, so you'd still have a hard time finding it, then. BTW, Wii Fit is coming out in january too, so Wii will probably fly from the shelves again. AJLynn
LOL, last year I figured I'd get a Wii after Christmas. When the demand died down and it became available in stores. Ended up finding one in October, right place at the right time.
afterglow
I can't say enough good things about the PS3... Some of the new games are amazing... games like motorstorm are and immersive and heaps of fun. Plus it's really useful for other purposes such as playing blu-rays, using as a music server and for web browsing.. definately feel like i've got my money's worth out of it. The Wii is fun too, but for me, i really havn't looked at it since i got the ps3.
IceAged
At the risk of being flamed, I suggest getting a PC. Dual SLI GeForce 8800, 4 Gig RAM, Quad Core CPU and widescreen monitors… easily kicks gaming console ass. :D:D At a pinch you could use this setup is for arch viz too... STRAT
must admit, i'm completely not a gamer. dont even own any pc games. my fav game is solitaire. i still use my zx spectrum. (just so you know where i'm coming from ) i played on both the wii and ps3 over my young nephews this holidays. the ps3 was as expected. looks well cool, but not for me. but the wii? heck, wtf? i was shocked. the graphics totally suck, the movement is pants and the whole experience made me laugh out loud with hilarity. what a farce. and what a price. is this what the hype is all about? sorry guys, just my opinion. blowback
PS3 man. I got one at Christmas and it is amazing. Blue tooth, 1080p, ect.I think it's the better system for your money but... In the end, it is all about what kind of games you like to play. I just found this thread, but man, shooting mayhem while running around the project, and showing a client......so good. one day

Too funny. But you bring up a good point. What I find fascinating about the Wii is that it keeps people off the couch and re-injects interactive creativity into video games. Don't get me wrong...if you look at the specs from the PS3 to the Wii, the PS3 wins hands down. But it's the creativity through interactivity that makes people play sports they never play, get fit, and allow others who could never play a video game before. BTW, did anyone buy Super Mario Galaxy? It was GameSpot's game of the year. I picked it up for my girlfriend's son and I gotta tell you it's one of the most creative and colorful games I've ever seen. I also like it because a second player can always help the initial player at any time. So, it was a great way to bond with the boy.
Ricardo Eloy
I'm just waiting for a friend of mine to finish the game so I can borrow... (I know, I'm a cheap old bastrd...). BTW, check out these videos. This is really what I call using creativity! The guy is using the Wii for very cool things, and some of them can be used in games. Something to hope for... Sawyer
My (almost 7 year old) daughter is not much of a gamer but I saw her at a friends house playing the Wii and she was having a great time. I think the Wii is the first step in what will be a great new frontier. I heard it said somewhere that all work will stop and there will need to be a national holiday when/if Lucas arts comes out with a lightsaber fighting game.
