Cesar R
hi guys, for the longest time I've been trying to make convincing glass and make it reflect the enviroment and I've been driving around town like a retart looking at glass haha. anyway below is a link to scene that I used as my testing lab. Will someone look at it and tell me what I am doing wrong, or if the renders looks convincing (glass) the model sux I know. thanks. BTW, 1701 Middle is on hold http://www.absolutecg.com/cg_architect/viz_exterior.zip
ingo
If you want to make convincing glass the number one point is a convincing reflection/environment map. Just try different pictures or different methods (a cylinder, a sphere). Start with 100 % reflection and work your way down to a realistic number, do the same with transparency and forget refraction. Tony
What is the glass reflecting? I don't see anything in the scene to see how well it's actually reflecting the image. No clouds or sky gradient either. Are you useing a map in the reflection slot of you glass material?
Cesar R
Hey tony I fixed the Zip file, it is reflecting a map called sky.jpg. It is mapped to a dome. please try again if you have time
Cesar R
hey ingo, what do you consider and realistic number? have you seen my material? I am using a fall off map in the transparency with a light gray and dark gray. I have RGB 27,27,27 for reflection. diffuse, ambient, to 0,0,0 Isnt it a dome the best way to get good reflections? PS there is an omni illumating the mapped dome. do you think its better to get rid of the light and up the RGB output value for the map?
Cesar R
Ok, I tried your suggestions, tell me what you think. where can i find some sort of chart with the color of the sun/sky at a given time? I am aiming for an afternoon shot here, referencing off of what I've observed here in FLA. Tony
Your glass is looking much better! Not as "hazy" looking as the first. Keep it up. One of, if not the toughest materials to make photoreal, imho.
ingo
Ahh, way better Cesar, Thats a good material for glass you can always start with, and depending in what surrounding your modell is change it a bit to your needs. There is no special sky and sun color at a specific time, its different with smog, rain, haze, clouds... just look at a webcam the same time every day. kid
I'm still messing with falloff maps and stuff to get VRay to do a good glass. Was this done in Viz 4? Radiance renders beautiful glass.
